Today 14th March is 778th anniversary of Lakhnauti Battle led by Kalinga eastern Ganga emperor Langula Narasinmha deva. It was one of the greatest battle ever fought against Islamic forces in Indian subcontinent.

When Mamluk dynasty made his way to Bengal in just 12yrs after battle of tarain, winning odisha was just a matter of a time for hordes of Islam and made their way to south india and decan area .
Governor of Bengal sultanate under Mamluk dynasty was Tughrab khan .

But Langula Narasimha deva under the command of Lord Jagannatha approached aggressive policy against Islamic forces.
In a tactical war of Katsin (contai now, in WB) Kalinga army ambushed Moslem forces in 1243 and slained Thousands of them.

After the battle of Katsin, radh and varendra (Bangladesh) came into the possession of Langula Narasimha deva.
Then on 14th March 1244AD(or 1245) ,Kalinga army started the 1st offensive battle against Islamic forces in Indian subcontinent way before the arrival of maratha-s.

Tughril tughan Khan , Bengal governor had to flee from Lakhnauti infront of mighty Kalinga army .
Even when governor/nawab of Oudh joined the battle, but couldn't manage to impact on the battle.
Finally Kalinga army captured the capital city of Bengal, Lakhnauti.

The areas which came under Langula Narasimha deva which are in Bangladesh or WB .
Even he gave shelter to hindu refugees from Bengal near Lingaraj temple, bbsr.
Parts of Bihar , WB remained in odisha even after 40years of the conquest during his son Veera Bhanu deva 1.

The Prashasti of Narasimha deva in the battle was done by his descendants like this 'The river of Ganga blackened by the tears of Yavani(women of yavana) which resembled the water of Yamuna' in inscriptions.
Bcz of this battle , islamic hordes couldn't dare to attack odisha later

Langula Narasinmha deva was a devotee of prabhu Jagannath, Shiva , Bhairavi and Surya .
He constructed many temples after winning such a vast territory from North of Bihar-Wb border to krishna river , in East from Bangladesh (varendra) to chatishgarh(kalachuri ).

The mighty Konark sun temple with 240ft vimana before destruction was the biggest temple of the era and is known as Black pagoda.
It took 12years of time, 36-40cr Tanka of that time .
It had 5000+ elephant sculptures only .
It was the peak of hindu civilization.

Other temples in odisha built by him: Gangeswari temple (right), Ananta vasudev temple in Bhubaneswar by his sister Chandrika Devi .
He also built Kapilash temple of Dhenkanal , Khirachora gopinath temple in Remuna, baleswar .

The current structure of Laxmi varahanrushinghanath temple in Simanchalam was also built by Langula Narasimha deva .
