This 🧵 and the article written by @shanti_das and @JonUngoedThomas in last weekends @observer is phenomenal. It's about time the mainstream media starts looking at the unethical practices of @novonordisk and holding them to account.
To add context to this tweet, Novo bought and paid for the so called "anti- oB*siTy" drug market a long time ago, and here's how
1️⃣ they created a fictional condition called pre-diabetes through the PR department of the @AmDiabetesAssn.
2️⃣ They established and funded a number of organisations whose sole agenda was to pathologise fatness and ensure everyone saw it is a serious health condition. They include @ObesitySociety@ObesityAction@WorldObesity and many more.
3️⃣ Through these organisations they were able to influence politicians, policymakers, guidelines committees and the media into promoting weight loss as part of a drive to improve the nation's health. Only it didn't work. Because weight loss is unsustainable and counterproductive.
All it did was further stigmatise and marginalised an already marginalised group of people. Which brings me to my next point.
4️⃣ They forced our hand. You want help with fertility? Lose weight first. You want a life altering operation? Lose weight first.
You want to be taken seriously in the workplace? Lose weight first. You want to win an election, get a promotion, be treated like a human being? Lose weight first. And how do we lose weight? Well that's easy, you can take a drug now!
5️⃣ "Fighting" weight stigma. This part is sneaky. Because fighting weight stigma is a good thing, isn't it? Well that depends on your underlying agenda. Novo want us to believe that being fat is a disease, and that people first language will benefit us.
Pathologising fatness only benefits the weight loss industry, including drug companies and bariatric surgeons. People First language goes against everything the fat community is fighting for. And yet they are praised by experts and influencers alike.
6️⃣ They are involved in a number of projects across a wide array of fields. For example they were involved in the movie #TheWhale. They financed and influenced the recent @AmerAcadPeds guidelines I like to refer as "how to give children eating disorders".
They bought and paid for the NICE decision to approve Wegovy last week. They have been funding weight loss programmes in the UK illegally. I have proof to back up every one of these claims but nobody is listening. Except maybe Shanti and Jon. I've emailed it to them. Let's see 🤷🏻

Let me make something ABUNDANTLY clear. The term "unwell" is used to attack trans people and fat people all the time. I chose my words VERY CAREFULLY. I did not use the term "mentally unwell". As you can tell from the comments on my posts I endure a LOT of hate.
The people who tweet hate messages at me are NOT mentally ill. They are just nasty, pathetic cruel human beings who live unfulfilled lives and get off on harming people. I've never ONCE met a mentally ill person whom I would describe that way. So don't put words in my mouth
And please, whatever you do, don't center your privileged white cisgender self when a marginalised person is under attack and trying to defend themselves. Allow me the dignity of taking one of their nastier and more hurtful comments and using it against them.
Alright, who is ready for some truths about #InsulinReistance and #T2DM?
1️⃣ You can't prevent insulin reistance. It's coded in your DNA. It may be impacted by your environment. Studies have shown it has nothing to do with your BMI.
2️⃣ The term "pre-diabetes" is a PR stunt. The correct term is impaired glucose tolerance (or impaired fasting glucose) which is sometimes referred to as intermittent hyperglycaemia. It does not predict T2DM. It is best ignored and tested for every 3-5yrs.
3️⃣ there is no evidence that losing weight prevents diabetes. That's because you can't reverse insulin resistance. You can possibly postpone it by 2yrs? Furthermore there is evidence that those who are fat at the time of diagnosis fair much better than those who are thin.
I lost over a hundred followers because of my comments on #TheWhale. Many of you are trolling me and other fat activists in the most vile ways. I continue to be in awe of the lengths ppl will got to defend a rich powerful cisgender white man.
"But he was sexually assaulted!".
Yes I'm well aware. That does not excuse a person from being fatphobic. Also, how dare you presume that I WASN'T sexually assaulted? Why rush to his defence by attacking me when you don't know whether we're in the same boat in that regard?
"But he's such a nice guy!"
So? I'm not suggesting he isn't. I'm just pointing out that he donned a fat suit to play a stereotype that is continuing to harm the fat community. That demonstrates a lack of integrity at the very least. He doesn't deserve to be praised for that.
One of the things I learned from @JessicaWilsonRD book IT WAS ALWAYS OURS is the importance of not asking Black women to carefully consider the way they word things around me because they've earned the right to just say whatever the fuck they want to say.
Why? Because they've been forced to consider every single word they've ever spoken since childhood, and the moment it isn't perfect, they get torn down for it. I want to be a soft space for Black women to land.
A place where they can be unfiltered and real and raw and honest and where they DON'T have to code switch or perform for whiteness or play into respectability politics around me. I want the community I'm building to be a safe space for Black women/AFABs/non binary ppl.
I generally ignore news about cisgender white celebrities which is why it has taken me this long to read about #GaryLineker. As the child of 2 immigrants and the granddaughter of a German Jew who escaped the Nazis in his youth, I believe I'm entitled to an opinion here.
So here it goes. I don't give a fuck about Gary Linekar. I do, however, care about @SuellaBraverman, whose right wing and often times fascist opinions are endangering this country. In case you didn't know Suella is the daughter of 2 immigrants. One parent is Indian Kenyan
In other words an Asian immigrant who benefited from the British colonisation of Africa before moving to the UK when Kenyans were given the right to rule their own country. Suella started out in a humble home but worked hard and got to Cambridge. And now look at her.
Once again, just a reminder that the Whale was written by, directed by, and produced by 4 thin white rich able bodied cisgender men. Oh, and check out its "fat" star who was celebrated and honoured at the Oscars last night. What a fucking joke.
The point I'm trying to make here is that other oppressed minorities have made it clear that it is NOT OK for the white wealthy elite to write/direct/star in movies about them. This should apply to fat ppl too as we are an oppressed minority. This film also won best make up/hair.
Are we able to wrap our heads around this one yet folks? Someone won an Oscar for making Brendan Fraser (a currently straight sized man) look FAT. No one else finds this disturbing ffs?
