👎🏻 Folks I have some disappointing news. The Lib Dem Federal Conference Committee has decided my right to safe air emergency motion doesn’t qualify to enter the EM ballot at Lib Dem Conference this weekend 😢 1/
The motion was highly commended for the quality of its drafting and content - and I’ve received really encouraging feedback, especially from the party’s Health team. However, it ultimately fell because the motion did not address an issue that had arisen unexpectedly.
2/
🚨 IMPORTANT: this particular battle has been lost but the war isn’t over! I’m disappointed the motion won’t get a hearing at conference, but point 2 of my motion is still achievable even without it becoming party policy👇 3/
🛟 So, I’m staying positive. My crochet canary will still be coming on tour with me to #York, and I’ll be chewing off the ears of any MP who’ll listen to me. I’ve seen correspondence confirming that at least one MP supported my motion! 4/
What’s more - most Lib Dem MPs are supporting #EllasLaw AKA the Clean Air (Human Rights) Bill, with a few who haven’t yet. So at conference I’ll be pressing Party Leader Sir Ed Davey and others to sign the Early Day Motion in support ✍️

To end: HUGE thanks to everyone for your support. There are too many to tag - you know who you are! Please don’t give up hope - progress on indoor air quality is coming. As the CEO of a major business recently said to me, “who can argue with clean air?!” Change is coming.

Could smokers hold the key to purifying the air? Bear with… Last night I had the most interesting #CleanAir chat with a pub landlord and it has sent me down quite a rabbit hole… 🐇
1/
The pub in question is the excellent Muddled Man in #WestChinnock, #Somerset 🇬🇧 They now have an air monitor and a poster. But the most interesting thing was not the air monitor - it was the discussion it started… 2/
Smoking indoors was banned in 2007, but before then many pubs and bars had ceiling-mounted air cleaners like this one👇 I’ve only had a precursory glance at the tech but the concept is sound. 3/
1/ Today I popped along to The Shed in #Crewkerne. Allow me to introduce you to two wonderful people, Mick and Mike, who have built something quite special… #CorsiRosenthalBox#CleanAir
2/ Meet Mick and Mike!👇 Last year they built a wooden #CorsiRosenthalBox in collaboration with @SmartairUk. However they used a metal cage fan & some small HEPA filters, but they built the frame to accommodate @3MUK MERV13 filters. Smart Air asked if I could bring some along…
3/ Check it out! What a great bit of kit. This is now my very last #CorsiRosenthalBox I’m giving away for FREE - and it’s a special one! My DMs are open 😊 #CleanAir#Somerset 🇬🇧
Because at a price of £174, and a Clean Air Delivery Rate of 585m3 per hour on the lowest setting… a CR Box blasts most commercial air cleaners out of the water
🙏🙏 Thanks to all your amazing donations (£3,512!), encouragement, and support - today I delivered my last #CorsiRosenthalBox to a family just in time for Christmas. It got me thinking about what we've achieved over the last 3 months... A monster thread🧌🧵1/24
I have 3 children (I know: yawn 🥱). But they’ve all been ill over the last month. Vomiting. Fevers. Headaches. All = time off school (naturally). Our youngest (6 weeks) was admitted to hospital 2 days ago with a fever. It was, frankly, terrifying - and I can’t help feel…
1/
…maybe we should be doing something to reduce the levels of illness we’re seeing? Is anyone doing anything about this? There are schools moving to virtual teaching due to staff absence!
Anyway here are a few things I learned following a trip to hospital with our 6-week old…

A&E is heaving. Doctors at their wits’ end. Completely overwhelmed. We had to sit in a corridor because there were no seats in A&E. Everyone crammed together. Coughing. Crying. Barely any pandemic lessons learned, it seems.
3/
Soon I’ll have no money left for #corsirosenthalboxes! Requests are coming in thick and fast, and soon I’m going to have to start saying “no”…
⁉️Got me thinking though: why the surge in interest…?
A thread 🧵 1/ gofund.me/3691a0c0
On 24th November 2022 (time stamping for future ref), the Department for Education (@educationgovuk) wrote to all their mailing list members (Local Authorities and signed-up schools). They stressed the importance of ventilation to tackle Covid and flu in schools this winter👇 2/
In this email, the DfE confirmed they are reopening their programme for FREE air cleaning units - which they endorse for classrooms where good ventilation has proven difficult to achieve. I think this is driving a renewed interest in clean air in schools
