IIT is a tech gladiatorial arena, a place I would have happily self-confessed my inability to enter.
It is a place where the most meritorious students from every strata, are confronted with peers far more gifted than them, and an academic rigour which tests the best.

Into this cauldron, a bunch of entitled stupids decide that merit CAN BE COMPROMISED in the name of equality and push many Solankis to fight an unequal battle.

If I wanted Dalit students to shine in IIT's/ IIMs etc I would gather the smartest 5000 Dalit students at Std V from across India, put them in residential Gurukuls, to receive the finest education... from STEM subjects to language.
The entire tab for this should be picked up by State & Central Govts.
The aim would be to ensure that these students would enter the IITs & IIMs with pride and hold their own, beholden to none.
That would be true affirmative action.
