A civic innovation idea:
Entrepreneurship-In-Residence (EIR) Program

which brings selected startup companies together with a city's government for 16-20 weeks to explore ways to make government more efficient and responsive.

A Thread 🧵
In the attempt to solve some of the city's public sector tech and functionality woes, and give entrepreneurs a chance to tap the public sector market, our governors need to launch an EIR program. 1/13
The government will (meritoriously) select 3-5 Startup teams of entrepreneur who will spend 16-20 weeks with the government officials on their chosen projects.
2/13
A number of entrepreneurs either had or wanted to bring products or services into the public sector market, primarily given its large economic potential.
3/13
But have the view that working with government is cumbersome, painful and they frankly just don't know how to start.
The EIR program can be created to bridge this very gap..
4/13
By aligning goals and physically working side by side, government officials and entrepreneurs will get a chance to work toward more efficiently leveraging open data, better utilizing public assets, improving healthcare, improving transportation and making an impact.
5/13
It could be Bus Parks and Terminal management Startup
Where citizens/users can identify available buses and their routes on an app and on-site.
6/13
Depends on the terms of play/implementation, such Startup increase revenue and enhance productivity for the government.
7/13
Startup teams will be chosen based on their demonstrated capacity to address an issue of relevance to the public sector, pursue an opportunity with an economic potential greater than $100 million, choose a project that can be scaled to meet the needs of other cities.
8/13
The team must also demonstrate a high likelihood of success based on previous experience.
9/13
It makes sense to do this, cities are centre of Innovation and being surrounded by entrepreneurs means there's no excuse for government to let it problems go unsolved.
10/13
The government can partner with relevant organizations on this program, with mentor roles being filled by experts and top professionals in City Planning, Innovation, Business management etc
11/13
Finally, the freshly retired civil servants can be employed by the Startup to bring public sector experience into their Startup team.
@toluogunlesi once asked how a thing of this nature can work.

#SolidNotes is my way to introduce ideas and approaches to make city governance more transparent, efficient and constituent focused.
