1997 NAVROZ MASSACRE OF KASHMIRI HINDUS IN SANGRAMPORA:
This is Late Shri Avtar Krishan Pandita. He was one of 7 innocent Kashmiri Hindu Pandit civilians, who were brutally murdered in rain soaked night of 21st March 1997 in Sangrampora village.
He was MY SCHOOL TEACHER too.
2
I was in 8th class of a local government school in Budgam district in Central Kashmir, where A.K. Panditaji was a popular school teacher. All pupils in his school (including me) were Muslims. He would go out of his way in encouraging those of us from poor families to study.
3
Sangrampora village was (it no longer exists) a Hindu village, where about 15 Kashmiri Hindu families used to live. All of these were extremely poor Kashmiri Hindus. Few like my teacher A.K. Panditaji had managed to become government school teacher through his hard work.
4
A.K. Panditaji was known as a kind & compassionate school teacher, who would reach out to Kashmiri Muslim kids from very poor families to study. He would personally arrange barbers for poor Muslim kids who suffered from fungal infection of hair & clean their wounds himself.
5
In this photo, the handsome gentleman in black muflar on left is my school teacher, late Shri Avtar Krishan Panditaji, whom we used to call "Masterji". On his right side is his paternal cousin brother Chuni Lal Bhat from Lalpora Tangmarg (few kilometers away from Sangrampora)
6
On fateful eve of Navroz, a group of 9 armed Kashmiri speaking terrorists went door to door calling out names of adult Kashmiri Hindu men from list that they were carrying and gathering them together. My school teacher A.K. Panditaji was also among those Kashmiri Hindu men.
7
All Kashmiri Hindu men understood that they were in danger of getting killed. They pleaded with Kashmiri speaking armed terrorists in Kashmiri to have mercy on them. They told them that all of them belong to poor families & have small children & elderly parents to take care.
8
Terrified Hindu men pleaded with armed terrorists to spare them & reminded them that they did not leave Kashmir even in 1990 & had stayed back with fellow Kashmiri Muslims, to which Kashmiri terrorists rudely replied back, "Who asked you to stay back ? You bloody Kafirs."
9
8 Kashmiri Hindus were forced to walk for a mile in dark & heavy rain. They were then made to stand in line in this spot in photo below asked asked to remove their clothes. After which, all of them were shot dead in volley of bullets, which hit them all over their bodies.
10
My teacher, late Shri Avtar Krishan Panditaji was hit by a shower of bullets on his face, such was the intensity of toxic hatred that drove brutal murder of these innocent Kashmiri Hindus. His handsome face was totally unrecognizable. Out of 8 men shot, only 1 survived.
11
7 Kashmiri Hindu men massacred on that night were:
This photo below is that of Trilokinath Bhatji & his son Dileep Bhat.
12
Massacre of 7 innocent Kashmiri Hindus personally left me completely traumatized,distraught & shocked. Brutal murder of my own school teacher just for being HINDU(or "Kafir" as gunmen called him & others) made my young impressionable mind question INJUSTICE in name of Religion
13
This is a spectacle of one of 7 Kashmiri Hindu victims of Sangrampora, which was picked up by someone.
Massacre literally ERASED village Sangrampora from the map as ALL HINDUS left the village after the massacre, leaving behind dilapadated ruins of Hindu houses.
14
Every year on NAVROZ day, I go and spend day with Sangrampora families, some of whom were shifted from Sangrampora to a guarded enclave in Kashmir Valley.
Last year, I organized small remembrance day at exact site, where 7 innocent Kashmiri Hindu men were brutally killed.
15/15 (Last Tweet of thread)
I was young, when Sangrampora massacre happened. I saw everything unfold in front of my own eyes. I carry tremendous guilt of not being able to do anything to stop this travesty. I pray that souls of all 7 men & Panditaji is resting in eternal peace.

I wish everyone a very Happy RAM NAVMI, an auspicious day, when Lord Rama was born.
But do you know that despite Shaivism being predominant religious tradition of Kashmiri Hindus, LORD RAMA has a special place in consciousness of Kashmiri Hindus & Muslims.
LORD RAMA & KASHMIR- 2/10
"Ram Ram Bhardrin Bhoonye" or Lord Rama's bow derived from Kashmiri lullaby "Ram Ram Bhadrin Bhoonye" is old Kashmiri word for Rainbow, which is now called "Sonzal" by Kashmiri Muslims.
But for centuries both Kashmiri Hindus & Muslims called Rainbow - "Ram Ram Bhadrin Bhoonye"
LORD RAMA & KASHMIR- 3/10
Kashmiri Hindus and Kashmiri Muslims strongly hold the view that Lord RAMA along with MATA SITA & Lord LAKSHMANA spent part of his 14 year old exile in Kashmir Valley and there are many places associated with Lord RAMA's vanvas, all over Kashmir Valley.
There is an ancient Aryan/Vedic tradition that originated in ancient Iran (PERSIA) to mark PERSIAN NEW YEAR, which eventually became part of the following three communities:
1. Shia Muslims of Iran & Azerbaijan 2. Parsi (Zoroastrians) of Gujarat & Mumbai & 3. Kashmiri Hindus of Kashmir Valley.
What is this ancient Vedic/Aryan traffic ?
It is the unique tradition of "HAFT SEEN" also known as "THAL BHARUN" amongst Kashmiri Hindu Pandits of India's Kashmir Valley.
This tradition of "HAFT SEEN" and "THAL BHARUN " is part of PERSIAN NAWROZ, PARSI NAVROZ & KASHMIRI HINDU NAVREH.
"HAFT SEEN" is an ancient Persian tradition of marking the new year by decorating a table with 7 (Seven) items that symbolize various themes.
"HAFT" is an ancient Persian (Avestan) word for 7 (seven), which is related to the ancient Vedic Sanskrit word "SAPT", also meaning 7 (seven). The alphabet "H" of Persian Avestan language would become "S" of Vedic Sanskrit and therefore Persian "HAFT" would become Vedic Sanskrit "SAPT".
Ancient PERSIA followed Zoroastrian (PARSI) religion and the tradition of "HAFT SEEN" constituted an important part of Zoroastrian/Parsi culture. This tradition later passed to Muslims of Iran, who first converted to Sunni Islam and later embraced Shia Islam.
The tradition was also carried on by the Kashmir Hindu community, which also traces its origin to ancient Zoroastrian Persians with slight differences.
Amongst Kashmiri Hindus, the items of "HAFT SEEN" were not placed on a table but put in a platter, called "THAL" in Koshur Kashmiri language. The tradition of filling "THAL" with symbolic items by Kashmiri Hindus came to be known as "THAL BHARUN".
What are these items of "HAFT SEEN" and "THAL BHARUN" ?
The seven items all starting with the letter "S" have varied from time to time amongst ancient Zoroastrian Persians, ancient Iranian Shia Muslims and Kashmiri Hindus.
Some of these typical items many of which are common to Zoroastrian/Parsi, Iranian Shia Muslims and Kashmiri Hindus are as follows:
2. "Samanu" or Sweet pudding of Wheat germs, symbolizing sweetness & fertility;
3."Sanjed" or dried oyester fruit, symbolizing love;
4."Seer" or garlic, symbolizing medicine and health;
5."Seeb" or apple, symbolizing beauty and health;
6. "Somagh" or sumac, symbolizing sunrise/new beginning;
7. "Sirkha" or vinegar, symbolizing age & patience.
In addition, there are also following items that are part of Iranian/Parsi "Haft Seen" and Kashmiri Hindu "Thal Bharun" including:
* "Sikkah" or coin, symbolizing wealth & prosperity;
* "Mirror" symbolizing self reflection
* "Holy BooK" like Parsi Zend Avesta, Holy Quran & Kashmiri Hindu Jantri symbolizing spirituality
* "Ink pot" or "Pen", symbolizing knowledge & wisdom.
In my comment section, I will be posting photos of the Iranian NAWROZ "Haft Seen" table decorated by the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran at the United Nations Building at Geneva, Switzerland.

KASHMIRI HINDU FORCED EXODUS DAY-1/15
Dear Friends,
I spent my day in somber remembrance of my beloved ethnic Koshur speaking Kashmiri Hindu community, sitting near a dilapidated ruins of a former home of a Kashmiri Hindu family in Malmooh Magam in Central Kashmir.

KASHMIRI HINDU FORCED EXODUS DAY-2/15
It was in January 1990 that Kashmiri Hindus began leaving Kashmir Valley enmass, out of fear of threat to their lives and most importantly out of fear of threat of dishonor of their women by Pakistan backed Islamist militants.

KASHMIRI HINDU FORCED EXODUS DAY - 3/15
What was the scale of forced exodus?
Nearly 98% of Kashmiri Hindus were violently thrown out of Kashmir within span of less than 6 months. Out of more than 77,000 Kashmiri Hindu families before 1990, less than 600 remained.
In an unprecedented move, defying dictates of separatist and religious extremist forces, ethnic Koshur speaking Kashmiri Muslims join tourists from other parts of India in large numbers to celebrate NEW YEAR festivity at Srinagar's historic Lal Chowk.
MIRACLE IN KASHMIR - 2/10
New Year Celebrations have largely been declared "UNISLAMIC " by religiously fundamentalist and extremist forces in Kashmir Valley since last 3 decades forcing ordinary Kashmiri Muslims to desist from celebrating New Year related fun & frolic.
MIRACLE IN KASHMIR - 3/10
Pakistan backed separatist movement that began 3 decades ago, imposed strict puritan religious norms on ordinary Kashmiri Muslims.Cinema halls were forced to close down. Kashmir's rich songs & dance cultural tradition was suppressed in name of "Azadi".

SHIA MUSLIM MASSACRE BY PAKISTAN IN GILGIT (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) - Thread🧵
Dear Friends,
This Eid, please remember 3000 Shia men, women & children who were killed by Pakistan's dictator President Zia-ul-Haq in Gilgit part of POK in 1988 on Eid.
Part 2
GILGIT BALTISTAN or GB as it is popularly known as (formerly called "Northern Areas") is part of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. It is Pakistan's only "Non-Sunni" majority administrative region, where majority of population comprises of Shia Muslims & Ismaili Muslims.
Part 3
I have my own roots in Gilgit & Baltistan. My "Beigh" family moved to Kashmir from Ishkoman Valley in Ghizer district of GB around time of Yusuf Shah Chak, who was Kashmir's first & only Shia Muslim ruler. We were originally from Burushaski speaking Burusho community.
