"Ram Ram Bhardrin Bhoonye" or Lord Rama's bow derived from Kashmiri lullaby "Ram Ram Bhadrin Bhoonye" is old Kashmiri word for Rainbow, which is now called "Sonzal" by Kashmiri Muslims.

But for centuries both Kashmiri Hindus & Muslims called Rainbow - "Ram Ram Bhadrin Bhoonye"

There is an ancient Aryan/Vedic tradition that originated in ancient Iran (PERSIA) to mark PERSIAN NEW YEAR, which eventually became part of the following three communities:

1. Shia Muslims of Iran & Azerbaijan
2. Parsi (Zoroastrians) of Gujarat & Mumbai &
3. Kashmiri Hindus of Kashmir Valley.

What is this ancient Vedic/Aryan traffic ?

It is the unique tradition of "HAFT SEEN" also known as "THAL BHARUN" amongst Kashmiri Hindu Pandits of India's Kashmir Valley.

This tradition of "HAFT SEEN" and "THAL BHARUN " is part of PERSIAN NAWROZ, PARSI NAVROZ & KASHMIRI HINDU NAVREH.

"HAFT SEEN" is an ancient Persian tradition of marking the new year by decorating a table with 7 (Seven) items that symbolize various themes.

"HAFT" is an ancient Persian (Avestan) word for 7 (seven), which is related to the ancient Vedic Sanskrit word "SAPT", also meaning 7 (seven). The alphabet "H" of Persian Avestan language would become "S" of Vedic Sanskrit and therefore Persian "HAFT" would become Vedic Sanskrit "SAPT".

Ancient PERSIA followed Zoroastrian (PARSI) religion and the tradition of "HAFT SEEN" constituted an important part of Zoroastrian/Parsi culture. This tradition later passed to Muslims of Iran, who first converted to Sunni Islam and later embraced Shia Islam.

The tradition was also carried on by the Kashmir Hindu community, which also traces its origin to ancient Zoroastrian Persians with slight differences.

Amongst Kashmiri Hindus, the items of "HAFT SEEN" were not placed on a table but put in a platter, called "THAL" in Koshur Kashmiri language. The tradition of filling "THAL" with symbolic items by Kashmiri Hindus came to be known as "THAL BHARUN".

What are these items of "HAFT SEEN" and "THAL BHARUN" ?

The seven items all starting with the letter "S" have varied from time to time amongst ancient Zoroastrian Persians, ancient Iranian Shia Muslims and Kashmiri Hindus.

Some of these typical items many of which are common to Zoroastrian/Parsi, Iranian Shia Muslims and Kashmiri Hindus are as follows:

1. "Sabzeh" like Wheat, Barley, Lentil sprouts etc., symbolizing rebirth & growth;

2. "Samanu" or Sweet pudding of Wheat germs, symbolizing sweetness & fertility;

3."Sanjed" or dried oyester fruit, symbolizing love;

4."Seer" or garlic, symbolizing medicine and health;

5."Seeb" or apple, symbolizing beauty and health;

6. "Somagh" or sumac, symbolizing sunrise/new beginning;

7. "Sirkha" or vinegar, symbolizing age & patience.

In addition, there are also following items that are part of Iranian/Parsi "Haft Seen" and Kashmiri Hindu "Thal Bharun" including:

* "Sikkah" or coin, symbolizing wealth & prosperity;
* "Mirror" symbolizing self reflection
* "Holy BooK" like Parsi Zend Avesta, Holy Quran & Kashmiri Hindu Jantri symbolizing spirituality
* "Ink pot" or "Pen", symbolizing knowledge & wisdom.

Remembering Bal Krishen Ganjoo

As child,I am personal witness to Sangrampora massacre of 1997,when 2 Pakistani terrorists with help of local Kashmiri Muslims killed 7 Kashmiri Pundits including my school Master Avtar Krishan Panditaji, by brutally gunning him on his face. In this photo, the handsome gentleman in black muflar on right is my school teacher, late Shaheed Master Avtar Krishan Pandita and on his left side is his paternal brother Chuni Lal Bhat from Lalpora Tangmarg, who fortunately survived the massacre and is still alive today.
