The Danish Department of Energy has released an image of the object found near the intact Nord Stream 2 pipe. It is approximately 40cm tall and 10cm in diameter.

The authorities have decided to salvage the object in cooperation with the Danish military. They have offered Nord Stream 2 AG to take part in the operation.
The authorities are suggesting that it is the remains of a smoke marker buoy. This wash up on the shore of Bornholm quite regularly.
One found washed up on the beach and removed by EOD on November 21st 2022.

The rough dimensions fit the object that has been found.

The one thing that currently annoys me the most regarding the Nord Stream sabotage.

The lack of any sort of consensus on the amount of explosives required to create the damage done (how much was explosive vs. gas pressure)
There is a big difference in requirements for the operation depending on if 30kg - 300kg were used per pipe.

This would have a big impact on everything from viability of the vessel used, ability to acquire the explosives and funding requirements.
If we are near the higher bound it seems almost impossible that it could have been done by anything other than a state actor.

No one is buying hundreds of kgs of explosives on the black market without red flags popping up.

Statement from Minerva regarding the Minerva Julie's 8 day stop over the Nord Stream explosion locations. They claim it was "awaiting her next voyage instructions."

While this does happen, it is quite the coincidence that looking at a year of AIS data, this is the only instance Image
It just so happens to not only happen directly above the Nord Stream pipeline sabotage locations, but also at the exact same time as the currently suspected Andromeda is supposedly placing explosives in the same location.
After leaving the area above the Nord Stream sites the Minerva Julie proceeds to Tallinn where it spend 7 hours performing what looks to be a crew change on September 14th. Image

Webcam footage from Hohe Düne shows a vessel that I suspect is the Andromeda at the marina on the 5th September. It is then missing on the 12th and 19th and returns on the 26th. ImageImageImageImage
This location at the marina matches where a Bavaria Cruiser 50 was docked according to Google Maps. Image
According to lower resolution webcam images this vessel leaves between 12:00 and 14:00 on the 7th September. ImageImage

It is funny to see all the people who have spent the last month stating that US intelligence is constantly lying and can’t be trusted, now suddenly pivot to believing anonymous US officials and intelligence.

Unfortunately the new New York Times article doesn’t give any new actionable information that can be examined.

“U.S. officials declined to disclose the nature of the intelligence, how it was obtained or any details of the strength of the evidence it contains.”
While an interesting development, I don’t feel that there is any real substance in the article that brings us measurably closer to knowing the truth about what happened. Hopefully at some point in the near future we get more actual evidence in one direction or the other.

Additional research over the past 3 days has made me change my initial hypothesis and point my finger at the Akademik Chernskiy as the cause of the Southern Nord Stream 2 rupture. A vessel ill-equipped for the task that ran into many problems.

It appears that the odd Pioneering Spirit track within 50m of the southern Nord Stream 2 rupture as a storm hit the vessel may in fact have been the coincidence of the century.
The Akademik Chernskiy resumed the work previously done by the Allseas Solitaire prior to sanctions, at the exact site of the leak.

Reports show that it immediately ran into problems with ensuring the required quality of the welds connecting sections.

It is honestly amazing that people can be this profoundly moronic and not accidentally die about 23 times a day.
