First, let's start with Polygon's reason for being.

So Ethereum was like, 'hey we need other ways to scale so that people don't have to wait in line for days and pay stupid amounts of money just to submit a transaction.'

And while POS is a great solution, and will continue to be used, there was a new scaling breakthrough that came about in the past few years.

But zkEVM is the holy grail.

And Polygon saw this.
So they acquired a few teams who were working on this. For millions and millions of dollars. AKA throwing all the chips on red.

And these teams got together and created MAGIC πͺ
It's said that this tech wasn't even going to be possible for like...I dunno 5-10 years.

Testnet is a "f*ck around and find out" sort of situation. It's like the real thing. But also not 100p real.
This lets anyone and everyone try it out and make mistakes and let the Polygon team know what issues there are.

So for the last 6 months, the zkEVM has been battle tested and upgraded to the point where it's ready to debut the REAL THANG.
