I've decided to go on a journey to find the best Bigfoot movie.
There's a lot of them but not a lot of great ones.
It might take me years to dig through them all but I'll keep adding to this thread as I watch them.

Be warned there may be spoilers.

#FilmTwitter #BigFoot
I guess I gotta start somewhere so movie 1 is 2018's Big Legend.
This movie is ok boarding on good. I would have loved to see the Big Foot more. I feel like they were going for the "less is more" by only giving us glimpses of him, but when you do see him, he looks good. Image
So it's a shame they didn't highlight that costume more. The "less is more" strategy works better when we don't really know what the baddie is, but we all know it's Big Foot and we want to see Big Foot.
The movie is also being used as a set up for sequels called "The Monster Chronicles" and actually does the "I'm recruiting a team" shtick. Will we ever see those sequels? Who knows.

I give it a 3 out of 5 squatches.
Movie number 2, Bigfoot (1970).

How could you see that poster and not want to watch this? The plot is a tribe of Bigfoots kidnaps women to breed them and take a woman that is part of the yuppiest motorcycle gang you've ever seen. Image
Now it's not very good, but it does have that 70s cheesy bad movie vibe going for it that makes it fun to watch, especially with a group of friends while being drunk and we do get to see several Bigfoots including a human/bigfoot hybrid child.

I give it 1 out 5 squatches.
Movie 3, The Abominable Snowman (1957).
Peter Cushing, Hammer Films, yes please.
I enjoyed this one. Although I wouldn't consider it scary it still delivers a good story about trying to capture a Yeti in the Himalayas and Cushing is pretty good, as usual. Image
There is a little supernatural element to it that might turn off those Bigfoot naturalists out there. I do wish we saw a little more of the Yeti besides a hand, silhouette, and half a face, but it still works. I'd recommend this one.

4 out 5 squatches.
Movie 4, American Bigfoot (2017).
This one is pretty amateurish. No type of filming style, bad dialog, bad acting, bad audio dubbing. They do show you a lot of Bigfoot but unfortunately for this film that really isn't a plus. Bigfoot's face looks like paper-mache. Image
Even the little star power this film has (Zach Galligan, Clint Howard) couldn't elevate it. And the ending, well it just ends. I even ran it back b/c I thought I missed something, I didn't.

1 out of 5 squatches.
Movie 5, Myth: Bigfoot Hunters (2021).

This one has too much going on while at the same time not enough. They have a mystical native American element, a gov super soldier conspiracy, main character's missing wife, yet don't expand on any of it and instead just walk around. Image
The Bigfoot costume looks pretty good. We don't get any closeups but that's fine. The main character has some funny lines and it keeps you interested a little bit. There's also a credits scene setting up the next film.

2 out of 5 squatches
Movie 6, Bigfoot vs the Illuminati

I figured this animated movie would be crazy but I was not prepared for the year 4044, reptilian aliens, Atlantans, Egyptian Gods, Aleister Crowley, Van Helsing, Dr. Jekyll, an indestructible killing robot, space battles, and that Bigfoot voice Image
This movie seems like a collection of PS3 cuts scenes for a game you don't want to finish. It took me days to get through it, but if you're 13 and high, some parts might make you giggle.

1 out of 5 squatches.
Movie 7, Hoax (2019).

This one is kind of enjoyable. Ben Browder is a desperate TV producer trying to exploit a possible Bigfoot killing with a new reality show. Of course things don't go as planned. Image
Towards the end the film swerves in a way that doesn't really work and basically turns into a whole different genre of horror.
But for the most part it's a good watch.

3 out of 5 squatches.
Movie 8, Devil on the Mountain (2006)

This one has a unique story. Bank robbers fleeing from the cops end up in the territory of a bigfoot.
It's basically your average cops and robbers type movie, but with Bigfoot picking people off during the pursuit. Image
There are some direction issues and it's obvious they were held back by the budget but it's a pretty good effort that just needed a little tightening up.

3 out of 5 squatches
Movie 9, Bigfoot:The Lost Coast Tapes(2012)

A found footage film about a TV producer making a show about a man that claimed to find a dead bigfoot. It's not bad but like most found footage we never see the actual threat and there's stuff that just never gets explained. Image
Usually I see FF as kind of a copout for filmmakers trying to compensate for either the lack of budget or talent. In this case the director has said he's not a fan of FF but thought it was the best way to tell this story. I can get that. Sometimes FF does work well.
And this is one of those times, but the film still takes a really big swing that leaves a bunch of questions. Maybe we'll get answers in the sequel, but it was announced in 2013 and still no sequel so we might never get it.

Movie 10, Bigfoot: the Movie (2015)
This horror comedy is packed with Yinzer Pittsburghese as 3 drunk Yinzer take on Bigfoot. This was filmed 40 minutes from my house and I've been fully aware of it since it came out, but honestly I never watched it because I didn't expect much. Image
After watching it, it turned out a lot better than I thought it would. There's some funny stuff in it and the Bigfoot creature effect is pretty darn good. It might be possible that people from western PA might enjoy it on a different level but it's still a fun watch for all.
They even released a sequel last year called Bigfoot The Movie The Sequel. It's only available through their Vimeo or physical through their website. I might check it out. It could be fun seeing these characters again.

3 out of 5 squatches.
Movie 11, To Catch a Yeti (1995)
This TV movie was filmed in 13 days and stars Meat Loaf, who was cast only one week before production began.

The movie isn't what you would call good, but I didn't hate it.

It has a lot of that "so bad it's good" stuff in it. Image
You might notice the Yeti does not look like a Yeti. Well that's quickly explained by Meat Loaf. The reason no one ever catches a Yeti is b/c they think they look like a Bigfoot but really they are small creatures with big feet.
Meat Loaf is the highlight of this film and he brings a weird intensity to this TV kid's movie, and I'm here for it so much that I would definitely read a graphic novel of the adventures of Meat Loaf's Big Jake Grizzly.

2 out of 5 squatches.
Movie 12, Man Beast (1956)
Is it a man or a beast or some kind of.... MAN BEAST?!
Some scientists travel to the Himalayas in search of the Yeti, because why else would you go there, and the only guide that is willing to take expeditions there has a history of his teams dying. Image
With these older movies I don't know if it's b/c people weren't that aware of the Yeti myth or the filmmakers are just padding the run time but there is always a lot of lore and possible scientific explanations and I actually quite enjoy that.
For me I'm always more interested in the myth and modern movies tend to just blow past that and go straight for the action.
Man Beast is a pretty good movie, the Yeti effects are kind of laughable by today's standards, but there is an interesting twist in the film.

3 out of 5 squatches.
Movie 13, 15 Things You Didn't Know About Bigfoot (#1 Will Blow Your Mind) (2019).

This mockumentary does a really good job of parodying Vice news and that's probably why the original title was "The VICE Guide to Bigfoot". In this, a jaded journalist's new assignment is bigfoot. Image
The movie comes off as not just a parody of Vice New's click bait but also takes swings at the Bigfoot community. That might turn off some hardcore bigfoot lovers/believers but in the beginning the main Bigfoot believer, Cryptid Commander, is a joke, by the end you understand him
You go from thinking this guy is a moron to actually sympathizing with him. This character arc and also the arc given to the journalist is something 90% of Bigfoot movies don't even attempt to do.
There are a few silly things in it that might make you question it but overall this is a solid flick with more heart than I was expecting.

4 out of 5 squatches
Movie 14, Bigfoot Famous (2021)

A YouTube influencer upset about her falling fame decides to find Bigfoot to boost her numbers.
I was ready to write this one off because it definitely seems like the type of movie that would be horrible, but it actually wasn't that bad. Image
Bigfoot is more of just the background of this movie where the main focus really seems to be to make fun of influencers and it does a pretty good job poking fun at them and the ridiculousness of chasing likes.
A lot of the jokes work and the characters are for the most part sadly believable.
However if you like Bigfoot to actually be in your Bigfoot movies your going to be disappointed.
Still an enjoyable flick.

3 out of 5 squatches
Movie 15, Bigfoot: The Conspiracy (2020)

This one is about an ex border agent trying to track down a predator killing his inlaws livestock and turns out he's not the only one looking for Bigfoot. The government is too. Image
There's a segment of the Bigfoot community that believes the government knows about Bigfoot and is coving it up and experimenting on him and that's exactly what's going on in this movie. They also throw in a few other conspiracies like Bigfoot being an alien or nephilim.
Coming at Bigfoot from any of those angles is a great idea. Unfortunately this film just doesn't deliver. There are some cool things hardcore believers will like but overall it's just not that interesting or exciting.

1 out of 5 squatches
Movie 16, Sasq-Watch! (2016)

A pair of Bigfoot obsessed brothers hit the woods to capture Bigfoot and a $500k cash prize in this comedy.
I enjoyed this one. It's not great but it has heart and some of the humor works. Image
Tim Meadows and Neil Flynn are pretty good, as they always are. The weird thing about this movie is it presents itself as a mockumentary but then doesn't actually commit to that. When the characters talk to the camera it comes off more as a 4th wall break than a doc interview.
Overall it's just an average movie. Not great, but not bad either.

3 out of 5 squatches
Movie 17: Harry and the Hendersons.

When people think "Bigfoot movie", this is the movie that pops into their heads.

An absolute classic film and it's a down right crime this movie is sitting at 45% on Rotten Tomatoes. Image
The vast majority of Bigfoot movies are horror films, so it's kind of weird that one of the best, if not the best, Bigfoot movie is a family comedy.
The story of a family taking in a Bigfoot after hitting it with their car is great and it even has some life lessons peppered in.
Probably the best Bigfoot creature ever put to film. It even won an Oscar for makeup.
The movie was so popular it spawned a 3 season TV series.
This movie sets the bar. What Jaws did for Shark movies, Harry and the Hendersons did for Bigfoot.

5 out of 5 squatches.
Movie 18: Cold Ground (2017)

This found footage film is the recovered footage from journalists that went to the mountains on the border of France and Switzerland to investigate cattle mutilations in 1976 and it's a pretty good found footage flick. Image
It has some of the same problems that all found footage has and some of those problems are more evident by setting the film in 1976, but the locations are amazing and add to the scale and realism of the film.
One big nitpick is since the footage is supposed to be from 1976 they had to make it look old and did so by simply throwing a film scratch filter on the whole movie. Most people probably wouldn't notice it but it bugged me the whole time.
I liked this film but there is one reason it gets a lower rating from me and (here's the SPOILER) it's not about Bigfoot. It presents itself that way and the characters even talk about Bigfoot but the creatures are something else.
But over all it's a decent found footage film and there is one kind of gruesome scene that might make some uncomfortable.

3 out of 5 squatches
Movie 19: Bigfoot's Wild Weekend (2012)

Do you like Bigfoot? Do you like boobs? Well, this movie has them both.

A tabloid journalist goes looking for Bigfoot after a rash of Bigfoot sightings that mostly seem to have happened to topless women now missing their panties. Image
This movie isn't good. Bad story, bad acting, bad attempts at humor, but there are boobs. If this movie would have come out in 1993 it would have found an audience of 13yr boys that hid the VHS under their beds, but it came out in 2012.
The Bigfoot costume is pretty decent. It's not great but it's by far not the worst I've seen and they actually show Bigfoot quite a bit. The best joke is a guy telling about how his brother got r*ped by Bigfoot, twice.

1 out of 5 squatches
Movie 20: Unverified (2022)

A Bigfoot researcher moves to the mountains in hopes of collecting evidence of Bigfoot.

I enjoyed this one. Good acting, good story, good lore. It comes so close to being really good. Image
A slightly bigger budget and a little more time in the writer's room would have greatly benefited it.
In lieu of using special effects they chose to just cut away leaving the audience to then piece together what just happened.
The movie also occasionally acts as a documentary. Like when they introduce a new character they just put their name/occupation on the screen. It's like they couldn't think of a way to introduce them through the story and just said, "F it, just put their name up there."
I enjoyed it, but it's frustrating when you see a film that with a few tweaks here and there could have been so much better.

3 out of 5 squatches
Movie 21: Bigfoot at Holler Creek Canyon

A group of coeds go to a cabin in the woods but they're not alone (Dun dun duuun).

This movie is pretty much what you'd expect it is, especially when you see Ron Jeremy is in it. Image
There are probably more gratuitous sex scenes in this than there are Bigfoot scenes. When you combine that with bad acting, bad attempts at juvenile humor, and cringe relationship drama you don't get a very good Bigfoot movie.
I kind of hate saying this, due to the recent revelations about Ron Jeremy but his character is the best part of this movie.

1 out of 5 squatches
Movie 22: The Legend of Boggy Creek (1972)

This docudrama tells the "true" story of the Fouke Monster. A Bigfoot like creature sighted in Fouke, Arkansas.

This one's very interesting. It takes on the subject as seriously as if they were making a documentary on any real subject. Image
They even have some of the actual witnesses playing themselves and used some of the actual locations.
As someone that enjoys the topic of Bigfoot and other cryptids I found it very fascinating.
It's not overly scary but there are a few scenes that I imagine would make audiences in 1972 jump out of their seats.
They even wrote a couple original songs about the creature and people of Fouke that are featured in the film.
The big question is, is this creature a Bigfoot or something else? In the film they talk about how its footprint is smaller and has less toes than a Bigfoot.
Overall this is a very enjoyable cryptid film.

4 out of 5 squatches
Movie 23: Abominable (2006)

This one is kind of like Rear Window with a sasquatch. A man in a wheelchair watches the women in the next cabin get picked off by a creature while desperately trying to find a way to warn them. Image
This one is pretty good. The acting is decent to good. It's filled with actors that may not be considered "stars" but you'll recognize them, especially if you're a horror fan. Of course there are a few silly moments that just don't make sense.
Like a group of terrified women instantly forgetting their terror and start bumping loud pop music or them not noticing one of their friends is missing.
Still it's a good watch. The Rear Window aspect is a good effort it just might have needed a bit more polishing. The creature effects are really good and there's one kill effect that's crazy.

3 out of 5 squatches
Movie 24: Hunting Grounds (2015)

A widower and his son go to live in a cabin in the woods and invite some friends to join them on a hunting trip, but something is hunting them. Image
I feel like the filmmaker wanted to really focus on the human element of this film by giving us a story about a grieving father and son after the death of the mother and that totally could work. Unfortunately the script wasn't strong enough for it to work.
And that leads to a kind of boring story until Bigfoot shows up. Then it becomes a bit more exciting.
The creature effects are good and I liked they had a group of sasquatch instead of the traditional lone Bigfoot.
The movie just never gets that exciting and nothing makes you care about what happens to the characters.

2 out of 5 squatches
Movie 25: Wild Men (2017)

A mockumentary poking fun at all those hunting Bigfoot TV shows. The crew goes into the woods but this time, they actually find something.

Within the first 3 minutes I was already checking to see how much longer this thing is. Image
The acting is poor, the jokes fall flat, there's a weird subplot of crew members trying to sabotage the shoot that doesn't work, however the last half hour gets a lot better. Unfortunately it's not enough to save the movie.
There is an interesting idea in this film where a sasquatch believer attributes every sound in the woods to Bigfoot but when faced with an actual encounter they're too afraid to admit it's really Bigfoot. I would have liked to see that angle played out more.
The creature effects are good. Filmmakers seem to get that at the very least their Bigfoot needs to look good, but over all the movie is just not executed very well.

1 out of 5 squatches
Movie 26: Boggy Creek II: And the Legend Continues (1985)

This official sequel to The Legend of Boggy Creek (unofficial sequel came out 1977) doesn't go the docudrama route and instead tells a story of a college professor and his students searching for the creature. Image
But if you enjoyed the dramatizations from the first film you're in luck because they threw a few in as the professor tells tales of the creature.
Right off the bat they show us the creature. The movie opens with the creature killing a deer in the river. A little twist this film has is to tell us the creature is somewhat aquatic and although there's only one water attack it plays with the idea at a beach scene for suspense.
There are some good scenes in this that build some excitement and I think it's a fitting follow up even if they went away from the docudrama approach.

3 out of 5 squatches
Movie 27: Exists (2014)

A found footage film about a group of friends going to a cabin in the woods and they just happen to piss off Bigfoot.

A lot of people dismiss this one because it's another found footage movie, but that's a mistake, because this one's good. Image
Sure it has some of the same issues that all FF has. Like trying to come up with reasons why people are still filming in the middle of being attacked but if you just put that aside you have a cool creature feature.
The movie is pretty exciting and the Bigfoot effects are really good. So good they have no problem giving you a close up.
There is one shot of Bigfoot jumping towards them from a cliff that is probably my favorite Bigfoot shot I've ever seen in a movie.
Don't let negative reviews and found footage bias keep you from watching this. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I was.

4 out of 5 squatches
Movie 28: The Badge, the Bible, and Bigfoot (2019)

Three girls are taken by Bigfoot and must be saved by a police officer that's had his job terminated due to town budget cuts.

Oh my goodness. This is basically a family making a movie in their backyard. Image
You can tell they didn't have a camera person by the way the two main characters very rarely are in the same shot.
There's one minor character that you never see his face b/c he's very obviously being played the same actor as the main character.
It looks like they bought the bigfoot costume from a Halloween store for $80.
The hero does defeat bigfoot by punching him a lot.
In the end the movie was all a dream. The hero wakes up and tells his wife he needs to stop watching violent movies then quotes some scriptures.
There are some funny moments b/c it's so bad but basically this is just not good.

Movie 29 : The Geek (1971)

Um.... So... Did you guys know they made an adult Bigfoot movie?

Well they did.

And I watched it.

It starts like a documentary, with narration explaining that this small group is going into the woods looking for a sasquatch that they call "The Geek" Image
The intro narration actually does a pretty good job at summing-up the lore of sasquatch.
Then we follow a group of 3 couples into the wilderness. They set up camp and then... They uh... Well you know.
Next morning they find Bigfoot who then precedes to violate a couple of the women then beat up the men.
The group stumbles away and the movie ends.
The whole thing is 50 minutes and if you fast-forward past the dirty parts it's like 25 minutes.
Now of course the small amount of dialogue in this is pretty unintentionally funny but there's not really any reason to watch this, ever.

Movie 30: Bigfoot or Bust (2022)

A group of ladies are trying to find Bigfoot and also some time traveling ladies show up that also want Bigfoot.

OMG, where do I start with this one?

If I had to describe this movie in one word, it'd be, embarrassing. Image
Everything about this movie is beyond amateurish. Which is weird b/c the director, Jim Wynorski has made over 150 movies. Most of them are bad, but there are a few cult favorites in there. So I would expect a little more from someone with that much experience.
In this the ladies keep finding reasons to shake their goods in attempts to attract Bigfoot, because as it's stated in the movie, Bigfoot loves "booty" and "big titties".
The time travelers came back to find Bigfoot poop b/c in 2050 it's worth trillions of dollars.
I don't want to be mean, but the women in this movie probably should have stopped making movies like this 20 years ago and that just adds to the embarrassment of the whole thing.

Not one redeeming quality in the whole movie.

Movie 31: The Bigfoot Diaries (2009)

A mockumentary that follows a man and his crew on an expedition to find Bigfoot.

I saw this had a 7.2 on IMDB and I thought I'd discovered a hidden gem, but now I think all the positive reviews were probably friends of the filmmaker. Image
I quickly realized this was meant to be a comedy, which could have totally worked but they rely on juvenile humor that just doesn't land.
Overall its just not very interesting or original.

1 out of 5 squatches.
Movie 32: Terror at Bigfoot Pond (2020)

A found footage film about a group of friends that go camping and encounter Bigfoot.

Now as I've said before found footage has issues that you kind of just have to ignore, but this movie makes that impossible. Image
The main character just happens to show up with a brand new GoPro camera for each person to wear, for really no reason. They all do and then of course each couple decides to use their new cameras to film themselves having sex.
Characters keep talking to the cameras as if they are narrating and if you can't understand the motivation of these people to film everything, it's really going to drive you nuts when Bigfoot finds a GoPro and straps it to his head and starts filming everything too.
The conversations are so boring that even at one point the movie fast forwards itself like it was a VHS tape. I don't know how you make a scene with topless women dancing around a campfire boring, but they did it.
Also the last 40 minutes are so dark and constantly switching between POVs there's no way to tell what's going on and the final "fight" scene literally switches back and forth between day and night.
This movie is so bad, it pissed me off. It's a complete mess. They thanked GoPro in the credits so I'm thinking they got some cameras cheap or free and if GoPro is listening, I'll take a couple cameras and crap something out better than this.

Negative 3 out of 5 squatches
Movie 33: Monstrous

A woman is trying to track down what happened to her missing friend. Does her disappearance have to do with a rash of Bigfoot sightings or is it something else?

This one is a bit of a twist on what a Bigfoot movie is. Image
Bigfoot is in it and plays an important role but isn't really the main focus. The Bigfoot costume is pretty decent. It's a shame Bigfoot only has like under 5 minutes of screen time.
The story is about the main character meeting up with a woman that was the last to see her friend and trying to figure out if this woman had something to do with the disappearance.
It is a unique take on the subject and I think it's so close to being something greater. Maybe just a little more tension building.

2 out of 5 squatches
Movie 34: Bigfoot: Blood Trap (2017)

A family inherits some land only to find Bigfoot lives there. After capturing him they get caught up in the schemes of a mad scientist that wants to make a human bigfoot hybrid.

Wow, this one is just, wow. Image
I came across this very low budget movie because one of the main actors was heavily criticized for staring in it when he decided to run for his local school board and maybe those criticisms were warranted.
The whole movie is about this group kidnapping women to breed with Bigfoot and it always ends with Bigfoot killing them, but nobody cares because they're all convinced their plans will make them rich.
The main actress gets killed off camera and then her character is just replaced by bringing in her step sister, who also has no problem with the plan. It's almost like the actress just quit half way through (probably a good decision).
Everything in this is bad, except a few of the gore effects are done well for such a low budget.

Movie 35: Throwback (2014)

Two blokes head off into the Australian rainforest looking for a long lost treasure only to find themselves in the territory of a yowie (Australian Bigfoot).

This one has a pretty good premise but just lacks the execution. Image
I like the idea that the reason no one ever finds the lost treasure is because the yowie kills anyone that comes near it's home and the classic double cross of a greedy partner all works. There's just a few things that don't make sense.
Like one guy blacks out underwater then just wakes up a minute later like it's no big deal. I'm not a doctor but I'm pretty sure if you go unconscious underwater you're going to drown.
Or the yowie won't walk through a foot deep stream because of an instinctual fear of crocodiles giving the characters a convenient place to hang out.
The yowie costume is pretty basic and they try to limit showing it. A lot of arm and over the shoulder shots with just glimpses of the face.
The movie isn't horrible. I could totally see this being really good with a bigger budget and tighter script, but as it is now, it's just an ok film.

2 out of 5 squatches
Movie 36: Creature from Black Lake (1976)

A couple of Yankee college students head down south to investigate sightings of a primate type creature in Louisiana.

This movie is definitely trying to play off of the Legend of Boggy Creek (1972), not that that's a bad thing. Image
The movie is shot extremely well and is filled with fun characters. The characters are so good that it makes sense that most of the movie focuses on them instead of the creature, however for a movie about a creature I'd have liked to see a bit more creature action.
We never get a real good shot of the creature but this Bigfoot is a lot more slender and looks more monkey like than the typical gorilla shape and I think it works.
This creature also has one of the craziest/creepiest howls I've ever heard in a Bigfoot movie.
Overall it's very enjoyable for the characters alone it's just lacking in Bigfoot action.

3 out of 5 squatches
Movie 37: Snowbeast (1977)

When a skier is brutally killed by an unknown creature it threatens the upcoming winter carnival at a popular ski resort.

As I watched this made for TV movie I couldn't help but notice it kind of mirrored the movie Jaws. Image
A woman is attacked in the opening, those in charge downplay the attack for fear that the tourism dollars would go away, when the public finds out they kill another animal and claim they stopped the creature, then a small group aware it's the wrong animal hunt down the real one.
This movie does a pretty good job. There's a nice bit of Bigfoot lore. It doesn't get gory, just some splashes of blood and cut aways when the violence happens. Probably due to it being made for TV.
We don't see the creature very much but the costume is ok.
The ending is a little anticlimactic and it's unclear if the creature was really killed or not.

Overall it's an ok TV movie, that probably would have been better had it not been a TV movie, but still a good watch.

Movie 38: Stomping Ground (2014)

A man visits his girlfriend's hometown for the first time to find out her and her friends all believe in Bigfoot and they are going on a Bigfoot hunt.

This one is frustrating b/c it could have been so much better. Image
The movie focuses more on the character's relationship story, which isn't a bad thing until it seems like they forgot this was a Bigfoot movie.
That's a shame b/c their Bigfoot costume is actually pretty good. They could have done so much more with it.
The movie is only 80 minutes and Bigfoot really shows up for about 15 of those. If they added another 20 minutes of Bigfoot terrorizing them, they'd have a solid Bigfoot flick.
They did almost everything right when making this except they forgot to put Bigfoot or any sense of terror in it.

Movie 39: Embedded (2012)

A news reporter and his camera doing a story on missing cattle find themselves on a search party for a missing boy only to realize the cause of the missing cattle is now hunting them.

This is another "so close to being great" Bigfoot movie. Image
It's found footage but since it's done as a reporter on a story all the normal issues with FF aren't there. Like there's actually a reason for them to be filming all the time.
The movie has some good gore effects and the creature is a pretty unique Bigfoot design.
It starts to fall apart with some subpar acting, bad dialogue, and repetitive kills. With a large group of characters you have the opportunity for inventive kills but almost every kill is a person standing there and then Bigfoot runs through and snatches them.
Even with its flaws, it's still a decent entry into the Bigfoot genre and I'd recommend giving it a watch.

3 out of 5 squatches
Movie 40: The Wild Man: Skunk Ape (2021)

A documentary crew is trying to track down the cause of missing women and one theory points towards a creature known as the Skunk Ape.

I really like when found footage goes the documentary route because it covers up a bunch of FF issues. Image
However it can also create new issues that are hard to ignore. This film starts using footage from cameras the "filmmakers" would never have access to like security cams, body cams, web cams. With zero explanation of how they would have got the footage for their doc.
That issue aside, the film is decent. It dives deep into the government conspiracies surrounding Bigfoot that most films won't even touch. Fans of conspiracy theories will love all the little references peppered in.
The Skunk Ape costume is good, not great, but that's ok. They make it work.
It's definitely one of the better Bigfoot films but I found myself focusing on the FF issues.

Movie 41: American Sasquatch (2020)

Paranormal investigators go searching for Bigfoot.

The poster for this movie is bad ass. The movie.... not so much. Image
The first half of this movie is made up of fake YouTube shows of one guy just talking about Bigfoot and another of paranormal investigators going on a stake out.
You would be more entertained watching actual YouTube videos of Bigfoot hunters.
Then at 40 minutes it becomes like a traditional movie. Words on the screen tell us a guy is hunting for the Bigfoot, they call The Grey Man, that killed his brother. The next 25 minutes or so is a guy silently setting up camp looking for the creature. The guy never talks.
He gets killed and we get a silhouette of Bigfoot for about 2 seconds. Then it cuts to two country bumpkins hunting in the woods. They come across a really bad looking Bigfoot and get killed.
It's like they made a short film of a man hunting The Grey Man (which is the best shot part) and then needed to pad their runtime so they added some random crap.
It's almost like this is an anthology film and that could totally work with a YouTuber being the wrap-around that takes us to each story, but they didn't do that and the result is just a badly made mess.

Movie 42: Primal Rage (2018)

A couple find themselves lost in the woods and are being hunted by a creature.

Oh boy did I enjoy this one. Image
The take on Bigfoot in this one is a lot different than basically any other Bigfoot movie I've seen. Typically Bigfoot is presented as just another animal but in Primal Rage, he's presented more as a primitive hunter. Using camouflage, bows, and spears.
I got a strong Predator vibe from this movie and the Bigfoot being an intelligent hunter raises it to another level than if he was just a wild animal.
The Bigfoot design is very cool and done extremely well. The kills are also done well with some pretty gruesome effects.
The only thing that brings it down is some of the acting isn't very good.
This movie is really cool, it has its flaws, but Bigfoot shines in it and I'd be totally down to watch a sequel.

Movie 43: Night of the Demon (1980)

BANNED IN THE UK UNTIL 1994!!!

A college professor takes his students into the woods seeking evidence of Bigfoot.

This one's filled with cheesy gore, nudity, and yes, the infamous scene where Bigfoot rips off a dude's junk. Image
There's also a bit of a story about a religious cult that worships the creature but also they were praying to Moloch. So I don't know if they think Bigfoot is Moloch or they just worship both.
I would have loved to see that element explored more but it's only in it a bit.
The gore is good in that 80's kind of way. This is probably the only Bigfoot movie where you'll see him rip out intestines and swing them like a flail.

The creature effect is ok but it's like a guy in brown makeup wearing a rug on his back.
The movie is definitely fun and has some interesting elements to it but I don't know if I'd go as far as to say it's good or maybe it's good because it's bad.

Movie 44: Dear God No! (2011)

An ultra violent biker gang's exploits lead them to a cabin in the woods.

This one is in the style of a 70s exploitation film. So that means it's filled with extreme violence, gore, nudity, and a horrible plot. Image
I debated even including this on the list because even though Bigfoot is on the poster he's hardly in the movie.
The gang does a bunch of horrible stuff, then Bigfoot shows up in the last 10 minutes and kills everyone.
The Bigfoot design is actually not bad. If they had the means to make a decent Bigfoot they should have actually used it and built their story around their best effect.
This movie is not good. They were more concerned with just showing messed up gore than coming up with a good story.

Movie 45: Dawn of the Beast (2021)

A group of college students head to the woods for their cryptozoology class seeking Bigfoot, but instead find a Wendigo.

This movie is pretty good and I honestly can't believe no one knows about it and I don't get the negative reviews. Image
Yes this movie is about the Wendigo and not Bigfoot, but finding Bigfoot is the motivation and Bigfoot shows up a few times. That being said there's a lot of good horror tension and few jump scares.
The creature designs are really good for both the Wendigo and Bigfoot. The flaws like some poor acting and bad fire effects don't really hurt the overall film too much.
I wasn't expecting much and found myself really enjoying this one. As a Bigfoot movie it's a little lacking but as a Wendigo film (which it's really intended to be) it does a great job.

Movie 46: Reel Monsters (2022)

When teenager Cory's dad goes missing he goes looking for him with the help of his new friends only to find there is a connection to Bigfoot.

The best way to describe this film is, amateur. Image
The story isn't horrible, especially for a kind of family friendly film, it just isn't presented well.
None of the acting is good. There isn't one actor in this that can deliver a believable line and the dialogue is extremely basic.
The Bigfoot looks a little better than a Halloween store costume, but not by much.
If you told me this film was a highschool class project, I'd totally believe you.

Movie 47: Shriek of the Mutilated (1974)

A college professor takes his students on a hunt for the Yeti. (This seems to be a recurring theme in these movies.)

This is an odd one. As you're watching it it's kind of a mess but at the end you're like, "oh." Image
I don't want to spoil it but the poster kind of already does that. (See even in the 70s, marketing didn't care if they spoiled a movie.)
So yes, they encounter an evil cannibal cult and when they do you realize this movie isn't about the Yeti at all.
There are parts that are hard to follow b/c the cuts are abrupt and even though scenes are set at night they were clearly filmed in the day time. One could argue that adds to the psychological confusion/terror of the film, but I don't know if it was intentional.
The Yeti looks bad, but ultimately there's a reason for that and you'll understand at the end.
I kept going back and forth on my opinion with this as I watched but by the end I did enjoy it.
I'm not one for remakes but I think this film could be remade and end up being a great elevated horror film. If the execution was better this could have been a classic, but as it stands it's just enjoyable.

Movie 48: Bigfoot (1987)

Two children are taken by a pair of Sasquatch and their parents are trying to get them back.

This is a TV film made by Disney and originally aired as part of The Disney Sunday Movie. Image
I didn't think I'd ever seen this, but as I watched I totally remembered the Bigfoots. So I must have seen it as a kid.
This isn't a bad movie. It's about what you'd expect quality wise from an 80s Disney TV movie. Acted well, the Bigfoot costumes are really good, simple plot.
There's a subplot about a Bigfoot hunter that could probably be completely cut, but it pads the runtime and adds a villain.
There is a ton of Sasquatch exposition delivered by the anthropologist character and that's something I always like in these films.
A good film for your kids that might be into Bigfoot. Nothing scary in this at all and it even throws in a little lesson about step siblings learning to accept each other.

Movie 49: Frozen Sasquatch (2018)

Scientists investigate mysterious disappearances at a Himalayan research base.

Hey kids, when making a movie and you only have like $1k budget, don't set your movie in the Himalayan mountain range, especially when there's no reason to do so. Image
As I said this movie is set in the Himalayas, but obviously they didn't have the budget to film there or recreate it so they end up walking around what looks like the woods of West Virginia with a fake snow filter and make references to snow and ice that isn't there.
The Bigfoot costume looked very familiar. It looked like the same one used in the movie Reel Monsters and guess what? It's the same director. I guess if you have a Bigfoot costume you might as well get a couple wears out of it.
There's nothing really entertaining in this. The plot is kind of ok, but everything else from the acting to CGI effects is just very poorly done. There's a lot that could have been fixed with just simple changes, but it still wouldn't have saved the movie.
One thing I'll give them is they aren't shy about showing off that Bigfoot costume.

Movie 50: Willow Creek (2013)

A couple go into the woods to film a documentary about Bigfoot.

Who would have thought the crazy guy from Police Academy would make one of the best Bigfoot movies? Well, he did. Image
This is a found footage film. Now I've expressed how this genre is not my favorite and a lot of times the choice to go with FF is more of a cop out for lack of budget or talent, but in this case it works.
Bobcat Goldthwait is already an established filmmaker so the choice to do FF is more of an exploration in art than compensating for a lack of resources and it's for that reason he's able to pull off one of the best FF films.
One thing you'll notice in this is the lack of any real violence/gore or the Bigfoot itself. He allows the audience to fill in the gaps with their own imagination. In the hands of a less experienced filmmaker this would seem like a cop out but he pulls it off well.
Bobcat has talked about how Bigfoot has fascinated him since childhood and that probably contributed to him being able to tell this story so well.

At some point in our lives everybody will have an existential crisis. I tend to believe it happens more during teen years and elder years. Elders because life is coming to an end and teens because they are trying to find their place in the world.
Old people can turn to things like religion, philosophy, family, maybe therapy to help them through it, but at that point in life there really isn't anything they can do to change their life.
They might find meaning in their life but if they don't they'll probably just become bitter and depressed for their last years on the planet. This could explain why some older people are just rude, mean, and unpleasant to be around.

Went out eat, some old dickhead at the next table started giving the waitress shit because he thought the bill was wrong. She explained to him he ordered the burger combo meal but asked for a veggie burger. That's an upcharge. The upcharge makes the combo more expensive than..
Just ordering the veggie burger meal. So she rang it up as a veggie burger meal, the guy got exactly what he ordered, and saved a few bucks. He didn't understand. She explained it again. He didn't understand. She said she can run the check as the combo but it will increase.
He said, "run it, and then we will see which is cheaper" as she turned to walk away he added, "idiot".
She ran the check, and guess what, it was more expensive. He couldn't accept that he was wrong and he was being a complete dickhead to a nice person that tried to save him $.

It's the anniversary of 1/6. So F it. Let's dig into it a little bit in a way too long thread that nobody is going to read. ( And will definitely have typos)

#January6th
One of the big questions from 1/6 is, what or who instigated it? A lot of people lay that blame on Trump and various other Republican politicians for claiming the 2020 election was rigged. Now that definitely didn't help matters, but is that what instigated it?
We have seen politicians on both sides say some pretty inflammatory things over the last few years and we've seen political violence increase but for some reason when we see violent riots that result in billions of property damage and up to 29 deaths (depending on who you ask)..

#SchoolChoice thread.

Many in favor of school choice argue that the increase in competition will result in a better product. As I am in the process of enrolling my kid in school I'd like to give an example to back up this claim. 1/
I was looking at enrolling the kid in a cyber school. The school is funded by the State so there is no tuition. The only way the cyber school gets money is if a parent chooses to enroll their child in the school. Because of this the school has an incentive to gain students. 2/
Literally minutes after I requested more info from their website I received a phone call and they explained the process and answered all my questions. Since then I have had several phone calls talking me through the process, reviewing enrollment documents, answering questions. 3/
