AYUB OGADA - KOTH BIRO

On the fifth day of the eighth month of 2016, a crowd in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, marveled at the soothing sounds of 'Koth Biro,' a hit song by the late Ayub Ogada, as its waves collided with their ears.
Both black and white ears are alike. For the first time in Twitter history, Ayub Ogada's name, along with his song, topped the #trending list. As the event was broadcast live around the world, more ears perked up, mouths dropped open, and eyes widened.
'Koth Biro' pierced the air, maneuvered through the dense Kodera forest, and scaled Got Ramogi and sailed through Lake Victoria in order to reach more ears, comfort wandering souls, and sell the name of a Luo Legend. The Luo Way of Life. The Kenyan culture.
The name, songs, and face of Ayub Ogada, born Job Seda, show that a prophet is not valued in his homeland. Call them Exhibit A, Exhibit B, and Exhibit C if you want. Ogada was born in Mombasa, originally from Nyahera, Kisumu,
and spent the next 15 years of his life in Chicago beginning at the age of six. He performed at numerous events while abroad and was mostly booked out.
Later, he moved to Kenya, perfected his mother tongue, and performed his songs in an open space near Lake Victoria, where he hoped his music would make more sense and relate to indigenous audiences, but in vain.
Ayub rose to prominence in Kenya on the day his "hit song" was played at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, when Keino, a former Kenyan athlete, received the Olympic Laurel Award in 2016. His celebrity, however, did not last long, as the sun set on him on an evening in 2019.
Ogada connected spiritually and deeply to his music with his talented fingers and eight-stringed Nyatiti. On his last day, he asked his wife to prepare goat meat, which he never ate. Instead, he asked her to keep it for the people who would be attending his funeral.
According to one of Kenya's leading newspapers, he said, "If I sleep, I will never wake up."
He went for a walk around his house. And then collapsed, never to stand again.
His voice can still be heard in various media outlets.
'Koth Biro' Ogada, Long Live!
Your name is still on our list. Because your voice has already established a legacy that will not die,
it has been published on a variety of digital platforms.
You are, in some ways, more present than the living man.

Saturday, January 20, 1962, was the happiest day in Kenya's history.
Mzee Walter Odede escorted his daughter down the aisle to marry Africa's most eligible bachelor at St' Clevers Catholic Church in Nairobi.
Everyone who was important was present.
Among the guests were Mzee Kenyatta, Jaramogi, Governor Ranison, and King Kabaka Mutesa. Kenyans had high expectations for the beloved groom as well as the beloved country. A vibrant cacophony of traditional and contemporary dancers adorned the air, which was thick with love.
It was the first, and most likely the last, time Kenyans from all walks of life and communities came together to celebrate brotherhood, hope, happiness, and optimism for the future.
Thousands of people sent congratulatory letters, including the Pope and heads of state.

Mageta Island, deep in Lake Victoria, was used by the British as a "Isle of the Lost," where hardcore Mau Mau detainees were to be held for the rest of their lives.
It was an entirely new experience for the Kikuyu convicts, who had never seen such a large body of water before.
As JM Kariuki , who was one of the Mau Mau convicts would later write:
"It was strange for us Gikuyu to wake up in the morning and find ourselves on small islands encircled with green and grim water, full of hungry crocodiles.
There was no question of escape and we began at times to despair of ever seeing our blue hills, red soil and crumpled valleys again."
Prison authorities hoped that Mageta's remoteness and miles of crocodile and hippo infested water would make prison breaks impossible.

ATTENTION TO ALL OUR LISTENERS AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC
It has come to our attention that there have been several online campaigns aimed at destroying the reputation of our radio station, JOWI FM. We would like to take this opportunity to set the record straight
and clarify any misinformation that may be circulating.
First and foremost, JOWI FM is a rebranded radio station based in Kisumu, Kenya. It was originally known as Ratego Radio then based in Siaya and was only broadcasting within Siaya County.
However, we recently rebranded and relocated to Kisumu, expanding our coverage area. We are proud to be one of the radio stations under CEA- MEDIA AFRICA, which was founded by David Bondo a radio journalist with over 16 years of experience

Dr. James Cobbs, the Medical Officer in Charge of Mathari Mental Hospital, is pictured here with a lion cub he kept as a pet in 1937. He was constantly accused of having sex with the cub in the wards, which eventually led to his removal.
Despite this, he was a well-trained psychiatrist. He was, in fact, the first qualified psychiatrist to lead Mathari. In 1937, he took over for Dr Gordon, a racist General Practitioner who had worked in Koru near Kisumu before moving to Nairobi and being hired at Mathari.
Gordon had argued that the brain capacity of an African man was equivalent to that of a European boy. Such controversies made Gordon take early retirement and return to England.
