What better evidence can one present on the reversal of public confidence in Judges and the Judiciary than the recent contribution of @oagbakoba Dr Olisa Agbakoba, one of the renown former Presidents of the Nigerian Bar Association @NigBarAssoc ?I gasped!
You see, every reasonable Nigerian hearing that considered opinion of Dr Olisa Agbakoba @oagbakoba SAN on the state of our country’ Justice System more broadly and Judiciary specifically has every reason to care about #JudicialTransparency, especially NOW✍🏾
Dr Agbakoba said: “I’ve lost a bit of confidence in what the courts have been doing lately. There was a time you could say, on the facts and the law, this is the likely outcome. Today you cannot, because there’s been all kinds of silly decisions”.
@oagbakoba was as outraged as the Public at the decision of Supreme Court when it affirmed @SPNigeria@DrAhmadLawan as the valid candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his senatorial district even though he did not contest the primaries. Kai! #JudicialTransparency✍🏾
“That is the most ridiculous decision I’ve ever heard that the Supreme Court has delivered,” @oagbakoba -former President of @NigBarAssoc , one of our foremost lawyers in this Land, Senior Advocate of Nigeria. Agbakoba captured the shock of Nigerians well. #JudicialTransparency✍🏾
Not done, Dr Agbakoba added:
“I don’t have the sort of confidence that I use to have in the judiciary and I will not be surprised if this thing goes one way or the other. I cannot forecast the outcome,”.
Election matters have especially compelled the Nigerian public (even without the legal expertise and brilliance of Dr Agbakoba @oagbakoba ) to pay attention and scrutinize the Judiciary and their rulings on cases.
Verdict is that public confidence is low. #JudicialTransparency✍🏾
The highly contentious 2023 election is now with the Judiciary.
Citizens are proposing measures that can best guarantee that justice is done in all cases before the courts.
Are there truly any reasonable persons who dismiss such reasonable public demand? #JudicialTransparency✍🏾
Imagine the CJN and Supreme Court Justices all agreed to broadcast their proceedings of the Presidential Elections Tribunal?
Why not?
In jurisdictions where no specific law prohibits cameras in the courtroom, it has been the Judiciary’s discretion to champion #Transparency.✍🏾
If you have followed this Thread #JudicialTransparency so far, something should be already obvious.
(Your) incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
Isaiah1: 13
I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD. And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.

And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions:

There is a difference between the Economic Management Team set up for the 1st time ever in 2003 by President Obasanjo and the National Economic Council established by the 1999 Constitution as amended; Section 153(1) and Paragraphs 18 & 19 of Part I of the Third Schedule.
Thread.
The Presidential Economic Management Team
(we called it “The Economic Team” for brevity) was a Technical Team of 12 persons from a range of expertise whom President Obasanjo constituted to drive Nigeria’s Economic Reform Agenda during his 2nd Term in office 2003-2007.
In constituting the Economic Team, we designed it @ two levels of Leadership:
1. Political Leadership: The President Olusegun Obasanjo
2. Technical Leadership: The Minister of Finance, Dr Okonjo-Iweala.
Our Team also had Thematic Issues Lead, e.g. I was for Good Governance.
I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I've been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
And all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
In the darkest night
You are close like no other
I've known You as a Father
I've known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God .
In that singular act of siding with his Minister of Communication, @NGRPresident@MBuhari actually conveyed a message on his view of terrorism. Nigerians now know that his views align with that of his Minister.
It is now left to Nigerians to convey whether we agree with them✍🏾
I do not agree with @NGRPresident@MBuhari and his Minister of Communication that any citizen can get away with such bloodcurdling rhetorics the latter made through the years. Worse that one who swore an oath to public office said and did the things @NigeriaGov has waved off.
Yesterday’s action by our President was an anti-climax. He has persisted in badly managing our country’s diversity.
Nigeria cannot at this stage avoid a genuine conversation about its Future.
The signs are all too obvious for all to see and act on.
As a Believer, one of the greatest tests of my life is granting real forgiveness to all those who because of Politics twisted my deep agony and agitation for rescue of ChibokGirls into all forms of wicked accusations I have had to bear since 2014. And yet I must.
In this 2018 tweet, I was recounting how the @BBCAfrica handle broke the news of the abduction of ChibokGirls on the 15th and my immediate reaction was to ask them if the news was “verified”.
I mean, it was hard to imagine hundreds of schoolchildren being abducted. It was hard.
My follow-on tweet after asking @BBCAfrica if their breaking news on the abduction was verified is captured below. It sank in my mind that it was BBC News and that by the quality control standards, it was near impossible to break unverified news. Ah. My eyes rolled down tears.
