@CDonatac @VP @TheDemocrats should not nominate @KamalaHarris in 2024.

I admire her very much, and, G-d forbid, if President Biden cannot perform his duties, I would join all Americans in my full support of our national leadership.

But she cannot win in 2024.

1/
@CDonatac @VP @TheDemocrats @KamalaHarris Nor should President Biden seek re-election.

He should complete his term and return home to Delaware with Dr. Biden with the thanks of a grateful nation.

Time for a new generation to lead.

This means nominating a candidate, a ticket, that can Win!

Remember 2016.

@darkbranstan @GayToad_3 @Kaepernick7 However, I understand that the murder of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO, September 2014, prompted Mr. Kaepernick to take a knee.

The incumbent local prosecutor, to whom Michael Brown did not matter, was running unopposed, too late for a challenge.

2/
@darkbranstan @GayToad_3 @Kaepernick7 In the next election, in 2018, a reformer challenged the incumbent, and won.

That only happened because people voted.

I wish he would set an example by entering the voting booth.

How anyone votes, including a spoiled ballot (fill in all the bubbles) is private.

@MaxHailperin As you know, each state does it differently.

Florida requires pre-registration, but is otherwise quite flexible.

A registered voter who moves within the state can go to early voting - which is real voting in Florida, not absentee as in Minnesota - or

1/
@MaxHailperin or, on Election Day, to the assigned precinct for the voter’s new residence.

Show photo ID and tell election officials the voter’s new address - no documentation required, though junk mail can help re the address - to report a change of address.

Then vote as usual.

2/
@MaxHailperin In Minnesota, this only works within the same precinct.

Otherwise, it’s an Election Day Registration and requires specific documents including Photo ID.

Both states had bad experiences with close elections, FL US President in 2000 and MN US Senator 2008; they learned.

@MaxHailperin @dbrauer My concern with legacy media is refusal to check interest groups’ hypotheses, with one exception, here:

nytimes.com/2001/04/08/us/…
@MaxHailperin @dbrauer Re Photo ID to vote, interest groups frequently cite alarming statistics of registered voters - every one an adult American citizen, of course - without valid photo ID.

Legacy media frequently print such ‘statistics’ without skepticism.

2/
@MaxHailperin @dbrauer Certainly the interest group claiming that a population exists should have no problem introducing a journalist to some examples of the phenomenon, right?

And if the interest group cannot produce examples, that fact is relevant to the story - if any.

@BriInMN A serious question:

@HillaryClinton strongly supported a federal law, 18 USC 116, criminalizing Female Genital Mutilation FGM in the United States; in the first test case in Michigan, a federal judge declared it unconstitutional as exceeding Congress’ powers.

1/
@BriInMN @HillaryClinton Many states - not Minnesota - have responded by banning FGM. @RepMaryFranson has sponsored legislation in Minnesota, which has gone nowhere.

Do @MinnesotaDFL @MNsenDems @mnhouseDFL support FGM?

What - if anything - distinguishes FGM from “gender-affirming care”?

2/
@BriInMN @HillaryClinton @RepMaryFranson @MinnesotaDFL @MNsenDems @mnhouseDFL Perhaps it would be helpful for our legislative leaders to consider this.

FYI, science is never settled; new evidence can always be considered.

While I support full equality, militant transgender activists have unfortunately become a cult.

@billglahn Nor have they distinguished “gender-affirming care” from Female Genital Mutilation FGM, prohibited by federal law 18 USC 116, a law strongly supported by @HillaryClinton.

A federal judge in Michigan ruled that it’s unconstitutional as exceeding congressional authority.

1/
@billglahn @HillaryClinton Many states have enacted state-level bans on FGM in response to the ruling of the federal court in Michigan.

Per @RepMaryFranson, Minnesota is not one of them.

Perhaps @MNsenDems @mnsrc can join Hillary Clinton to protect girls by amending the law to ban FGM.

@TyLbDm @billglahn Thanks at least in part to the strong support of @HillaryClinton, Congress criminalized FGM in the United States 18 USC 116; recently, a federal judge in Michigan declared the law unconstitutional as exceeding the enumerated powers of Congress, in favor of the states.

1/
@TyLbDm @billglahn @HillaryClinton Many states including Michigan have subsequently criminalized FGM; I understand from @RepMaryFranson that Minnesota is not one of them.

Obviously, parents - or state or local government officials - desiring FGM for their daughters (or young girls in their official custody)

2/
@TyLbDm @billglahn @HillaryClinton @RepMaryFranson need only label FGM as “gender-affirming care” to obtain the full protection - and public financing - of the State of Minnesota.

Traditionally-minded parents won’t have to send their daughters to a foreign country for the procedure any more.
