Bit more on Graham Potter's sacking. Line in the statement on a "smooth transition" is a reference to the parting being amicable (as much as a sacking can be) and some of Potter's staff remaining on, at least until a permanent manager is appointed.
There has been a lot of back and forth. The prevailing view earlier in the day (as reported! 😅) was Potter would stay on for Liverpool. The club even sent out a release about his pre-match press conference. But things changed rapidly following further internal talks.
The decision was led by Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart with Potter informed by mid-afternoon. Behdad Eghbali also present in London, but Todd Boehly is in America. Discussions thus had to factor in that time difference.
#CFC position is that an 'exhaustive search' will take place for a replacement. Julian Nagelsmann is very much one to watch, but it remains to be seen if anyone is in place in time for Real. Nagelsmann also still contracted to Bayern so can't be appointed without going via them.
Obviously any prospective new manager may see appeal in coming in quickly and having control of the #UCL quarter-final. But trust being placed in Bruno Saltor to stay on as interim for as long as needed.
