So, um, just found out today that my Kenneth Nicholson designed #MetGala2022 look is currently part of the #CrowntoCouture exhibition at Kensington Palace. Image
Me for the next several hours around my house.
Shoutout to @Hannah_Greig for the heads up and the photo.

It is untrue that no one had ever put a woman in an action movie before Jennifer Lawrence in Hunger Games.

It is absolutely true that Hollywood had and has a real bias against women driven action movies because of this ridiculous belief about who identifies with whom.
Part of the problem is that previous successes were often dismissed as being successful for reasons other than their being female driven action: Alien is a monster movie. Kill Bill is Tarantino. Titanic was epic romance. Twilight is YA.

They're all female driven action.
And female driven action has made money in Hollywood since time immemorial, just like male driven action has.

But just like so many other kinds of films, the industry ignores the data, because they're wed to conventional wisdom that is all convention, and no wisdom.

Y’all see a healthy moviegoing ecosystem, I see a near total lack of anyone but white guys making movies. (Shoutout to Nora Ephron though.)
Not me tweeting and deleting additional thoughts about this tweet as a matter of self preservation.
We gotta stop acting like fewer movies are getting distributed each year. Apart from the pandemic, the opposite is actually true. The studios may be releasing fewer each year, but that’s a wholly different issue, and a failure of competency, if anything.

What if, and just go with me here, @AndrewYang, there were more effective ways to change the system than launching a third party named after your book with you as the figurehead?
Like, maybe the biggest problem with the system isn’t two parties, it’s the fact that all American voters don’t have an equal representation in their federal gov’t and that’s if they can register at all while one party actively tries to reduce the number of eligible voters who do
And again, @AndrewYang, these two slides do not show what you keep arguing they do. They show that 60% of the country is left of the moderates AND Republicans have consistently gamed state legislatures to prevent that from showing up in federal elections.

There are movie trailers and there are movie trailers. This is the latter.
The trailer genre here is clearly “what the hell did I just watch? I must know immediately.” One of my favorites.
This is going to result in someone thinking it’s a good idea to pitch their movie as “Babe: Pig in the City meets Witches of Eastwick” (What? That’s how Vanity Fair described George Miller’s movie!) and I am here to tell you that however right you may be, probably not.

The reality is that at the highest levels. the Hollywood film business remains the least diverse sector in American business.

It’s been cosmetically “woke,” at best, to the extent that it’s been “woke” at all.

This is actual nonsense. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/…
I invite @asymmetricinfo to do absolutely any research whatsoever on the economics of diversity in Hollywood.

She may consider starting with this 2021 study from @mckinsey, who may know a little something about capital and its deployment.

There is now more that $300k actively available to screenwriters via opportunities on @theblcklst, above and beyond the industry professionals using the site to find writers and their work.

And applying to every single one of them is FREE once you’re hosting a script on the site
And yeah, there’s still more coming.
For comparison's sake, the Nicholl Fellowship gives a maximum of $175K every year.

The Austin Film Festival gives roughly $30K to feature writers, television, and playwrights, in total.
