Canada planning a purchase of 12 subs for around $60 billion.

So what options are on the table?
standard-freeholder.com/news/national/…
Join AUKUS 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 🇦🇺 and go nuclear ☢️

This is probably the most out their option, but with the UK, US, and Aus joining forces on new subs, is it that much of a stretch to let another Five Eyes partner into the club? Image
Sweden 🇸🇪 and the A26

Saab’s A26 - as offered to the Netherlands for its Walrus-class replacement would offer the Canadians an expeditionary capability. Image
Germany 🇩🇪 with the Type 212CD

With six in the works for the German and Norwegian Navies, the Type 212CD and more specifically it’s expeditionary variant the Type 212CD E is a likely candidate to at least be offered to the Canadians. Image
France 🇫🇷 and the conventional Barracuda

Having been canned by the Aussies at the final stretch, Naval Group knows submarines and the Barracuda family could easily fill Canadian needs.

Should they desire nuclear boats, France could also be an option as opposed to AUKUS. Image
Japan 🇯🇵 the Taigei class

While similar in externals to the prior Soryu-class, the Taigei class features the increasingly significant tech of lithium-ion batteries offering enhanced endurance and other improvements over lead-acid batteries. Image
South Korea 🇰🇷 KSS-III

South Korea’s largest boats to date, the nearly 3,400t subs offer endurance of 20 days and if earlier reports are anything to go by, could be delivered pretty quickly. Image
This list is of cause not exhaustive, but for my two cents, I think the A26 could have a good shot.

Imagine the scenes if Frank Lampard comes back and wins the Champions League
Incredible to think as a midfielder, he'd easily score 20-plus goals every season.

.@BAES_Maritime has cut steel on the UK’s fourth Type 26 frigate HMS Birmingham and made progress on the site of its future shipbuilding hall, filling in a former wet basin. #Shipbuilding #RoyalNavy
shephardmedia.com/news/naval-war…
Cutting steel for HMS Birmingham, marks the formal start of production of the second batch of Type 26 frigates, following the award of a £4.2 billion contract for five further ships to BAE Systems in November last year.
To support the programme, BAE Systems is adding a new shipbuilding hall to its site in Govan, Glasgow. The 175m long and 85m wide hall will allow two Type 26 frigates to be worked on under cover simultaneously.

NATO's newest member will start production of a fleet of new multi-purpose frigates before the end of the year!
The multi-role corvettes will be capable of anti-surface warfare (ASuW), anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and minelaying.

Finland has already selected Israel Aerospace Industries' Gabriel anti-ship missile, BAE's 57mm gun, Saab's Torped 47 lightweight torpedo and the Raytheon ESSM.
The Finnish Navy says the ability of the ships to manoeuvre in the demanding conditions of the Baltic was unique.

The draft of the hulls is designed to enable the ships to exploit Finland's archipelagos and coastline.

In a now-deleted web post, the Bundeswehr detailed how the German Navy must prepare for future conflicts, describing the shape of its fleet and a need for large numbers of uncrewed systems.
shephardmedia.com/news/naval-war…
The report included a table detailing the German Navy's envisaged 2035+ fleet, which provides for six F127 frigates, six F126 frigates, three F125 frigates, six to nine K130 corvettes, six to nine Type 212CD submarines and up to 12 Type 332 MCMVs. Image
.@naval_gazing told Shephard that the plans detailed in the report were 'very plausible'.

He added: 'They reflect the changing security environment, the Zeitenwende and the need to regenerate large parts of the naval force until the 2030s.'

- Thread - Everything we know about Ukraine's maritime drones

Today Ukraine launched a fundraising campaign to build at least 100 multi-purpose USVs.
Ukraine says the USVs will be used to 'defend the waters of our seas, stop russian ships carrying missiles from leaving the bay, protect merchant ships, and perform secret missions.'
they say the so-called maritime drones can do long-range maritime ISR, escort traditional ships, convoy merchant vessels and and direct artillery fire.

All at $250,000 per unit
