An MSNBC host claimed that independent journalist Matt Taibbi lied to Congress, a federal crime. What's more likely is the MSNBC host has no idea what he's talking about.

Having worked with Mehdi, this is a pattern. He learns very little about a topic and then goes 100% full throttle with no nuance. He plays to a partisan crowd but frequently makes elementary errors. Like claiming black people can't vote in Georgia:
Which by the way had higher voter turnout in 2022 than New York did. Where's the MSNBC segment on New York's oppressive voter laws?
Going 100% into a partisan or tribal ideology with no nuance, always seeking to demonize the other side is why Mehdi fell for this Islamist stuff as a 20-something. True change would be listening to the other side not preaching at them.
An avowed Afghan foe of the Taliban decrying Medhi describing Americans as analogous to them. Of course to Mehdi this is just partisan banter to get the MSNBC job he was seeking.
Mehdi Hasan has perfectly adapted to the pathologies in partisan cable news: seek out conflict, not facts. Play to your base, never challenge them. And polarize the country because it's good for you, even if it's bad for the country.
By the way I was working with both lee and mehdi at that time, and this *never happened.* What happened was they were just arguing about politics on twitter and the managers wanted them to chill so they both did. Why is Mehdi lying about this during *Ramadan*? Image

Here goes the Beto O'Rourke/Stacey Abrams/Wendy Davis/Charles Booker news cycle again politico.com/news/2023/04/1…
Dems who win in the South are 1) low-key 2) bipartisan 3) never superstars on MSNBC
4) if they engage on guns, they do it quietly and do not make it their main issue

William Buckley debating with Milton Friedman is a classic demonstration of the difference between conservatism and libertarianism HT: @ZacharyGraves
As an aside Buckley talking to your medium sized living room TV in 1990 is a real tech throwback Image
No offense to the devoted Objectivists out there but this is one of the best takedown-essays in modern history:

Some geopolitical schizophrenia is you compose a government that openly incites against Palestinians while also telling the rest of the world you're very kind and tolerant of Palestinians
It's the Internet era, countries really can't have it both ways anymore
Like on one hand you cut videos talking about your tolerance and diversity and on the other hand you have this. Like Baghdad Bob levels. Who actually believes it?

I think people are moving South for affordability reasons, not necessarily crime as the South tends to have more crime than the coasts. But also when you move to a totally new area you have flexibility to settle in places with less crime within that state.
I think people living in segregated neighborhoods in NYC and DC should keep writing stories about how Georgia was in 1955 though
You drive around ATL and you'll see a lot of license plates from CA and NJ, they can buy a home here for half the price, pocket the difference, use that money for their kids' future. It's win-win for them.

TBH the Pakistani government does *not* rely on outgroup animosity nearly as much as the BJP does. PPP and PTI are not organized around anti-Hindu sentiment and that does make a difference.
Soviets formalized the tactic of ignoring questions about your own abuses and trying to whatabout some other country. Yes it's used by basically everyone now from Israel to China, but it was a Soviet strategy.

But why does it matter if TN Republicans get a week of thrashing on the national stage? TN politics doesn’t reflect national.
We get this story over and over about how Southern Dems are benefitting from national energy attention (Beto/Wendy Davis/Stacey Abrams) but fundamentally the southern Dems who do succeed largely eschew that attention.
Who's the southern Dem who has had the most success? Probably John Bel Edwards. How many left-leaning press hits has he done since 2016?
