CITY POWER CONTRACTOR ARRESTED FOR SUSPECTED SABOTAGE
City Power CEO Ms Tshifularo Mashava welcomes the arrest of one of the contractors for sabotage and tampering with essential electricity infrastructure.
The suspect was found inside City Power switching substation in the Roodepoort area with working equipment. It is not clear how he gained entry but his actions nearly killed some of City Power operators and technicians who were working on the network down stream from
the same switching station.
"While City Power operators were working on the repairs in the Roodepoort area, they isolated the Switching Substation for safety purposes.
Please note that we had a delay with some restorations and repairs since in the morning due to the System Operators being in a meeting at the Head Office since the morning.
The meeting sought to ensure efficiency and quality in our work and that customers are serviced accordingly.
During the meeting, which was scheduled from 9:00-11:00, we ran a skeletal service in terms of fault location on new outages, test cables, and restore the power supply once repairs are completed.
#Northriding 11 over sub perm 221 (block 8) tripped affecting parts of Bromhof and Sonneglans. Operators have isolated the fault at the first port.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused. ^DR
While back feeding to restore the power supply from Randburg Sub (Block 14), the area went under load shedding. Operators will attend to the outage after restoring the power supply in Harley Sub.
City Power apologises to the residents of Riverlea for the power supply interruptions that
frequently occur in the area post loadshedding. ^LP
We are however concerned about the protest action in the area which will further exarcebate the situation as we may not be able to send teams into the area to attend to the
outages.
While we understand and appreciate the sheer frustration and inconvenience caused, it is unfortunate that residents have opted to embark on a protest action, which will worsen and lengthen the duration of the outage.
