I’m early today, yay!

📍Silk Noodles - Shanshui Hotel, Kilimani

Been itching to try this place for ages so when @_wangwe decided to be outside, this became our very belated lunch plan:) The location isn’t hard to find thanks to the big sign right at the entrance. #nairobieats Image
Ambience wise the place is nothing to write home about which is PERFECT because it means they’re putting all their focus in the food😉 #nairobieats Image
We got started with some chicken dumplings (1000/), I didn’t know that an order of dumplings meant we get 20 of them😮‍💨 I’m so used to the 6 we get at Japanese restaurants lol… #nairobieats Image
Knowing this now & also consulting with our server, you can ask for a mix of 10 & 10, that way at least you get to try different dumpling varieties🥟 #nairobieats Image
That being said - the dumplings are a nice bite size version, making 20 not seem too many after all😄 they are steamed, not fried and so so good. I always go for pork dumplings but these chicken ones weren’t bad at all, esp with some soy sauce… yum! #nairobieats Image
Had @truthslinger @swambi also in the mix so those dumplings were inhaled quite quickly amongst the 4 of us lol. We then tried a chicken wing, yes 1😄(200/) & some pork belly (150/). #nairobieats Image
I found it interesting that they charge per wing and per skewer of pork belly but I like that also so you can decide how many you want instead of getting 6 wings when you only had space for like 3 you know? #nairobieats
That chicken wing was also quite spread out on the skewer lol, I guess ni chicken wing choma😅 It was delicious nonetheless, the Chinese don’t play with their fried chicken wings anywhere in this world👌🏾 #nairobieats Image
The pork belly comes as cubes on a skewer, it tasted both fried and grilled if that makes sense & it was coated in some spices that really elevated the taste🤤 I’d like to have more of those when I go back:) #nairobieats Image
For the main meal - we had the Silk Noodles (800/). Did some research and read that silk noodles (lamian) are actually hand-pulled noodles, which are tedious to make but taste much better than the dried version you find in the supermarket. #nairobieats Image
So you choose a type of noodle and it’s immersed in soup with strips of beef (or without if vegetarian). #nairobieats
Now please note, we had eaten quite a bit already. @_wangwe & @swambi (knowing the size of these bowls) only ordered one to share, meanwhile @truthslinger & I - the newbies, got our own bowls each. We were not ready for the massive serving of noodles that was brought to us😂 Image
A steaming hot bowl of noodles (chose the small noodles), strips of beef & veggies swimming in the soup filling the bowl. It was raining that day so this was the perfect meal to have because it really warms your insides🥹 I really ate it up weuh😋 #nairobieats
I think I’d have liked it to have a bit more spice to it though, some fresh chilies maybe, just to add a kick. Their chilli mix isn’t as hot, barely hot actually so it didn’t do much for me. But that’s the only thing I’d add to make that bowl complete👌🏾#nairobieats Image
It kind of looks like ramen but Mutua educated us on the differences between this and ramen so it’s definitely not ramen but it’s still a delicious & very filling dish, can’t complain. #nairobieats
Service was meh. The place wasn’t full but getting the server’s attention proved to be a task. What was hilarious was how they presented the bill… Mans shift was clearly done & he wasn’t gonna spend another minute writing out an entire bill please lol…I appreciate the brevity😅 Image
I enjoyed my experience here for my first time, I’d love to go back and try their other meals because I’ve really been looking for good Chinese restaurants in Nairobi & haven’t found one yet so this may be it🙊 #nairobieats
The complex also has a couple of other Chinese restaurants that I’m excited to go try one by one. If any of y’all do go try any of them, lemme know which ones are worth visiting👌🏾 #nairobieats

First review of the year!

📍The Spring Noshery- @SaritYourCity

The Spring Noshery has been on my list for a while but I don’t frequent Sarit Centre often so never got a chance to visit until just recently. It’s located in the new wing, 2nd floor I believe. #nairobieats
They have a wider breakfast menu and a more limited lunch/dinner menu. I wanted to try their crepes (750/) because you don’t find crepes in most restaurants, it’s usually just pancakes. My friend had their signature Belgian waffle (850/) #nairobieats
The crepes were so good & filling! I didn’t think I’d be full because thin pancakes can only do so much but four of them stuffed with strawberries & Nutella plus a side of bacon… that’s quite a meal😅 love that they added raspberries & blueberries too, always here for more fruit

Talking about a great gem today…

📍Unseen Nairobi - Kilimani

A rooftop cinema, cafe AND bar, Unseen was a fantastic find and it’s become a place I visit often when I need a change of work scenery:) #nairobieats
Had a nice little date here with @DushyKuria one time and we really enjoyed the food there. We had the pork bao buns, kimchi grilled cheese sandwich, potato croquettes & Korean fried chicken (my fave!). #nairobieats
Loved the Korean chicken and the bao buns the best, so flavourful, so filling! The kimchi sandwich was a bit too salty for both of us😬 #nairobieats

So today we are talking about the famous…

📍Red Ginger - Parklands

1st of all, this place is so massive! Feels like a mall that has just the one restaurant lol. And it gets crazy packed - make reservations beforehand if you can. #nairobieats
They have an expansive menu filled with traditional Indian dishes, Indian bbq and oriental dishes as well. #nairobieats
We had bhajiaz, chicken tikka, some butter naan & garlic naan, also tried the butter chicken, palak paneer & cheesecake for dessert. #nairobieats

Let’s start with a place that really surprised me😃

📍The Daily Cafe Bistro - Hurlingham

Just to note - they only have brunch at their hurlingham branch and not their Gigiri branch. I was also surprised to find out their hurlingham branch is in Doctor’s Plaza... #nairobieats
It’s a really cute spot, their decor is A1👌🏾 They have quite an extensive menu, with breakfast all day! I had waffles and a side of bacon, which came with some fruit & way too little whipped cream…(America spoiled me clearly lol, why was it just a drop of cream??🥲) #nairobieats
I liked my meal but would have liked a better serving of whipped cream.

@AbigailArunga had the King breakfast that was a full plate of mushrooms, an omelette, baked beans, sausage, bacon, buttermilk pancakes… I’ve probably forgotten something because it was a lot of items😅

That being said… watch #FromScratch knowing there shall be tears🥹 @zoesaldana’s Italian is impeccable and her acting in this is fantastic👌🏾
And now I wanna go to Florence and Sicily and eat all that yummy food😋
Gone down a deep hole reading about this show and I’m finding out it’s based on a true story🥺 @ReeseW picks the best books to adapt into TV/Film, she hasn’t had a miss yet👏🏾 #FromScratch

Last review of the day:)

📍Hero Restaurant - Trademark Hotel, Village Market

I’ve been to Hero a couple of times between last year & this year & always had a fantastic time there😃 #nairobieats
The food was great, the service was on point and the place just has great vibes! I had prawn tempura (quite large ones) which I feel had way too much batter tempura wise but all in all a good fleshy prawn on the inside… #nairobieats
I also had some very soft, flavourful lamb chops that was paired with a tangy sauce and some fries:) I know it’s a sushi place but I don’t eat sushi so didn’t try any but @KipronoLeting did and he absolutely loved it👌🏾 #nairobieats
