Also: populist left will always open doors to mass migration. When out of power they say migration happening because capitalists use it for Machiavellian ends; once in power they discover it is the left's most potent and reliable political weapon. Buying votes is their trade.
Mass Third World migration has happened everywhere the populist left has won: Ireland, Basque Country, Scotland, Argentina, etc. Argentina very telling as it's Bannonist "economic populism" but much more so. And it busted open doors for Bolivians, Peruvians, Paraguayans. Why?
Because the left once in power found out that actually migrants don't work very well but will vote for you if you give them a washing machine or fridge on election day. And in fact Peron did the same internally, bringing in beige from the provinces and buying their support.
This is the logic that will always drive the left, and even if they genuinely believe they will stop migration, once in power, the prospects of new faithful clients to use against Elite Bad Guys who don't want to give you their money is irresistible

This logic is intensified when you combine economic/left populism with religious and social conservatism, as then the migrants, coming from "socially conservative" backgrounds with pious abuelitas become even more indispensable allies against godless hedonist "elite" white guys!
These two groups--the religioncucks and the interloper populist/economic/academic left have nothing to do with the real right wing awakening of around ten years ago, which is scientific, nonreligious, aware of the primacy of biology, and understands the danger of the Global South

It was in part a cynical, in part a pedantic-academic reaction to Trump's destruction of the old line GOP and to his winning of the Upper Midwest (including some ex-Bernie voters). The Jack Kemp rhetoric of Paul Ryan branch was exposed as a lot of lies coming from corrupt valets
Ryan-Romney GOP diverged from Obama on ~1-3% of economic policy; worked with leftist media to smear and silence Ron Paul; showed themselves to be corrupt valets of particular industries, like Monsanto, while attacking others; bailed out banks in 2008; "free market" rhetoric fake
Under the dishonest rhetoric of Jack Kemp capitalism, old line GOP was party to the systematic looting of America and its deindustrialization, its flooding with migrants; it then absurdly tried to claim tariffs are "socialism" while giving special benefits to preferred industries
