When Ravana had won the three lokas, he had captured all the devtas
Ravana had also captured the Navagrahas and placed them on the steps that led to his throne. He used to step on the Navagrahas every day and feel more and more powerful
This act of humiliation angered the Navgrahas, but alas they’re helpless. Shani Dev, however, was fuming and made vow to do something the first opportunity he gets.
The opportunity presented itself in the form of Meghnad/Indrajeet’s birth. Ravana was invincible and, for all purposes, an immortal (until a mortal came along), he wanted similar fate for his soon to be born son.
Ravana himself was a learned astrologer. Hence, he planned to have them all placed in one place (11th House) to ensure that Meghnad/Indrajeet is invincible throughout his life.
While other 8 grahas were muttering and discussing how having a younger version of Ravana would spell further disaster disaster, Shani Dev was planning to make this opportunity count. Shani Dev, using the dirt on his body (from lying on the steps), created Gulika & threw it in
In the 12th (very inauspicious) house.
Ravana felt the presence of Shani Dev in the 12th house at the time of his son's birth and got furious, and He imprisoned Shanidev as a punishment
Later on, when Hanumanji came to Lanka looking for Maa Sita, he came across the place where Shani Dev was imprisoned
Hanumanji freed him, and Shanidev, in turn, blessed Hanumanji with a boon that he (Shani dev) would not affect him.
However, Hanumanji sought the blessings to the devotees who pray to him, too. Therefore, Hanumanji is prayed to on Saturdays along with Shanidev 🙏
