Hey folks, there's a convo about Beef that I hope you're keeping up with. We can't ignore this just for Asian American representation sake. This is not the type of representation I want and you shouldn't either. There is nothing funny about rape jokes.
Here's the video that was pulled off of twitter by Choe's own company #BEEFNetflix :
Choe laughs stating that he was a successful rapist. He uses MRAsian language about the general under sexualization of Asian men and basically says what every person who educates abt rape warns: rape is not about sex, but about power. He got a power trip from it.
I really can't tell you how many of my Asian friends online have been attacked by MRAsians when we call them out. Folx get doxxed, harassed and threatened. We must root this out of our community. We don't need toxic masculinity or anti-blackness to ensure representation.
I said jokes b/c Choe stated that he was saying this for "shock value." But I finally found the vid & I don't think what he was saying was a joke. He was way to descriptive for him to pull it out of the air. The fact that the other men in the room keep him going is disturbing.
As a final post to this thread, representation is just not worth promoting or profiting off a self alleged rapist. I want representation, but not at the cost of BIPOC women being abused, gas-lit, and silenced. That's my BEEF.
Tweeted about a bill that could lead to more Black & brown disabled people ending up in ERs, homeless, prison, or dead if we didn't include funding provisions. Was told I was too much a social worker & that I wanted to keep disabled ppl in institutions. 🤷🏻♀️
The people leading those attacks then got called out for xenophobia after posting a video live saying basically that immigrants got more attention than disabled people to congress staff. Protested those people and got a bunch of folks mad.
Helped get the leader fired from one leadership position but they stayed in another leadership position. The other individuals got out scott free, but whatever.
So, I wanted to review my COVID case so folks understand BA 4/5. I am quadruple vaccinated and have been rather careful and hadn't gotten COVID before this infection. #CovidIsNotOver
On June 24th, I attended an outdoor protest and wore a mask when in crowded areas. That was the first spot I could have gotten COVID as one of my friends tested positive soon after. On the 25th, I attended another protest taking similar measures. #CovidIsNotOver
That evening I attended a birthday party. Due to many of the similar precautions my friends were taking, I did not wear a mask. The next day, I found out another one of my friends tested positive. #CovidIsNotOver
More disabled groups need to come out vehemently for abortion access. Banning abortions puts disabled people at significant risk. Many would be put at increased health risk if they were forced to bring a fertilized egg to term. #BansOffDisabledBodies#DisabledAndProChoice
If your disability org truly supports bodily autonomy for the disability community, you should be supporting bodily autonomy for disabled women and those that can become pregnant. #DisabledAndProChoice#BansOffDisabledBodies
Bodily autonomy is not just for disabled cis het men. It's for all disabled people. Your org is being hypocritical if you don't support abortion access. Point blank. #DisabledAndProChoice#BansOffDisabledBodies
Know your rights when it comes to the ADA. If you are high risk and you doctor recommends masks, you can request your a mask mandate at your place of work as an accommodation. If they deny it, you have a right to submit a complaint to EEOC. blog.petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2022/03/08/mas…
Employers may state that it is an "undue" burden. However, if they previously had a mask mandate, then itll be harder for them to prove. The workplace may also suggest other accommodations, like WFH. But if u disagree with that accommodation due to isolation, you can push back.
EVERY accommodation request MUST be reviewed individually. That means there can't b a blanket ban on an accommodation. Each workplace should have a process for requesting an accommodation. If u dont know urs, ask. If they dont have one, tell them it's the law to have a process.
My statement after the Disability Community's meeting with @CDCDirector (threaded for accessibility):
1/7
While we are all pleased that Dr. Walensky was receptive today, what’s most important is fast aggressive action that will save lives:
2/7
The disability community needs regular lines of communication with the CDC, more transparency around how decisions are made and what data is being used, increased vaccine, treatment, and isolation guidance for individuals who are immunocompromised or at high risk.
