3. Pachai Payiru (Green Gram)
A curry made using Green Gram is mixed with cooked rice and taken mostly as lunch.
Most kitchens, mix grated coconuts in the curry giving a unique flavour - #KonguFoods
4. Uppu Paruppu (Toor Dhal)
Literally meaning salty lentil curry - this is a very simple dish made by cooking lentils with salt. It’s mixed with steamed rice for lunch. People also add ghee, onions, garlic (as some regional variations).
A curry made from Country Chicken (or, ridge gourd/ Mushrooms etc.,) is very unique #KonguFoods for two reasons:
1. There is no marination involved 2. Freshly ground spices - made like paste is used

6. Santhavai (சந்தவை)
Looks like idiappam (kind of Noodles) but is made from Rice Cakes (Idlis).
A simple equipment is used to squeeze the cooked idlis into noodle. Culturally important #KonguFoods item - as it’s the first dish to be served to married couple at bride’s home.
7. Raagi Dumpling (ராய் களி)
Being an arid region, Ragi used to be one of the staple food item in Kongu. Though not a unique dish in #KonguFoods, it has a golden spot esp. among oldies.
Many homes don’t cook it now due to intense labour it needs in the modern kitchen stoves.
8. Kachayam (கச்சாயம்)
A 5 mins oil fried sweet made by mixing flour with jaggery is a quick snack at every Kongu home.
Either rice flour or wheat flour is used for this.
9. Kambu Dosai (Pearl Millet Dosa)
Pearl millet, like ragi, used to a staple food item in Kongu Kitchens - slowly given away their share to tastier rice varieties.
But some of their last bastions are well preserved - one is dosa, which is still loved by many. #KonguFoods
10. Ragi Pakoda (ராயி வடை)
A pakoda made by mixing onions with ragi flour is a very popular snack in Kongu Homes.
Most of them have stock of Ragi Pakoda ready to be served for guests.
11. அப்ப கோவத்தலை ரசம்
Rasam (South Indian soup) cooked as medicine to be given to kids who caught cold - this is made from a medicinal plant called அப்பகோவத்தலை.
The recent controversy surrounding #Amaran movie has shown how weak the fissures are in Hindu society.
While the concern of Brahmin community is genuine, some advising to boycott the movie looked too much!

Tamil films are deeply anti-brahminical. Making fun, sexualising Brahmin women has been so normalised over years. Most often they're are shown timid & cunning.
& that's why the voices ask 'Why can't the biopic on brave Major Mukund (Iyengar) be shown truthfully?'

Contrary to common belief - this caste based crooked views aren't limited to Brahmins.
All castes are targeted.
But one can find an antidote movie for other castes where they're glorified - Brahmins are left out in such cases - another reason for the outrage.
My first hand info about PMK came while I was studying in CEG - when literally everything was in their hands. From VC to Dean all appointed by them.
CEG - from being one of the top ten institution in India became a mediocre institution - even changed the prestigious name

While we have to get permission to own a bicycle - one student claiming to be grandson of Ayya will roam around in Fiat Linea loaded with liquor 🥃 & poor girls esp. on weekends.

Most of the newly appointed lecturers were of low standard and politics was huge.
I still hate my days in that college and didn’t go even for my convocation though I was studying in the campus just opposite to that institute.
Chennimalai Temple is one of the oldest Murugan Temples in #KonguNadu & is also called as ‘Siragiri’ or ‘Chenniyangiri’.
The town formed near the temple hill is now also called Chennimalai - now famous for Textile Industry. (1/n)
The ancient trade city of ‘Kodumanal’, on the banks of Noyyal River is situated near this temple hill. This town is believed to have trade links with Romans for the ‘beryls’.

Temple deity Murugan is equated to the Sevvai (Mars) and all the rest of the eight planets are placed encircling the Moolavar.
This is different from the normal Navagraha placement in every temple, where the surya (sun) will be at the centre.
