I have been saying this to journalists who assign to lobbying groups such as @pearlsNY and @KnowUs_ the same credibility as they give #YeshivaGate whistleblowers:
@pearlsNY was formed after a legal complaint was filed by whistleblowers who allege educational neglect at certain yeshivas. A few years ago @MollyBoigon found that leadership of @AgudahNews actually helps run it 2/X forward.com/news/436106/se…
It’s important to understand that at it’s core, what the whistleblowing does is threaten a hugely profitable enterprise which was hitherto allowed to operate almost totally unregulated — on the public’s dime.
@pearlsNY themselves acknowledge their raison d’être is financial 3/X
Fast-forward 8 years and the @nytimes dropped a bombshell investigative report which uncovered the scope and scale of the aforementioned profits paid for by the public: BILLIONS OF $$ IN TAXPAYER FUNDS while *intentionally* failing miserably 4/X nytimes.com/2022/09/11/nyr…
They went to their old playbook and formed ANOTHER group to combat the business threats to Yeshivas brought on by whistleblowers, this time it’s called @KnowUs_c, and it’s specifically (according to their own words) targeting the Times’ reporting. 5/X

On the anniversary of the #WarsawGhettoUprising I would like to share, in a thread, the final letter written by Szmul Mordechaj Zygielbojm, a Jewish Pole exiled in London and serving as an advisor to the Polish Gvmnt-in-exile, before he died by suicide to protest inaction.
1/X
The letter, addressed to Polish president Władysław Raczkiewicz and PM Władysław Sikorski, dated May 11 1943, is one of the most searing and painful letters I have ever seen. He’s just learned that his wife Manya & 16-year-old son Tuvia had been killed during the uprising.

After all of his frantic efforts to get the Allies to do more were in all in vain, and as the uprising was being mercilessly crushed, he decided to sacrifice his own life in the hopes that it will stir them to action. I will share it in it’s entirety below:

This phenomenal Op-Ed by @nmoster in @JewishCurrents newsletter is a *must-read* article. Important for any New Yorker, but especially conscientious progressives who care deeply about social issues.
“@JuliaCarmel__’s bill, if passed, could potentially undo all of that and allow yeshivas to form their own accreditation agencies that would in turn rubber-stamp yeshivas that continue to flout the rules.” jewishcurrents.org/progressives-h…
“It seems reasonable to conclude that her decision to sponsor this legislation out of the blue […] @JuliaCarmel__ appears to be throwing Hasidic kids under the bus to ensure her political survival.”
Herein you will see what happens when a member of the tribe knows the facts but because he’s a naive Baal teshuva doesn’t know that he is meant to lie about them.
Let’s begin with a stark admission by the Good Doctor:
“As a baal teshuva & a practicing physician, I am certain that the chasidic education is in no way “substantially equivalent” to the public school education I received.”
But no! He continues with this WHOPPING confession:
“It is time to be honest, both with ourselves & with the government. No more pretending that a Torah curriculum miraculously confers competency in English, mathematics or science. This is pure fiction.” crownheights.info/op-ed/773243/o…
There’s nothing cheaper in NY politics than Jewish blood and Chasidic peoples’ wellbeing. @BrooklynDA should resign in shame. thecity.nyc/2022/5/9/23064…
But when activists or advocates accuse @BrooklynDA of being corrupt or in the pocket of influential Chasidish powerbrokers we get gaslit by @OrenYaniv (who covered the story for @NYDailyNews so he knows there’s over 10 victims) or made fun of online by him:thecity.nyc/2022/5/9/23064…
“It is indefensible and cruel that a self-styled Torah institution not only failed to keep vulnerable young women safe from monster Weberman, but now at long last still use any means whatsoever to keep them from being made whole, even if only financially,”thecity.nyc/2022/5/9/23064…
