There’s now an active Met Police investigation into Malicious Communications & Hate Crime aspects of the Malcolm Sargaent @dioceseoflondon case. The Cad Reference is 5793 dates 16th March 2023 & Crime Reference No. is 6521164/23 🧵1
Sargeant has only ever been investigated for his financial crime, which means what was written & transmitted about 42 clergy & led to the death of Fr. Alan Griffin was never investigated. It is clear that many of those priests named were perceived to be #LGBTQIA+ & what was /2
written was therefore a hate crime. Of further concern is that @dioceseoflondon contest Sargeant was not employed by them but had access to blue HR files, a breach of GDPR & was able to discuss his perception of clergy with senior diocesan clergy. The police are interested in /3
both in the Malicious Communications & GDPR breaches as well as the Hate Crime. They are seeking as many of the 42 priests named were named to contact them.
Fascinating & disturbing @VICEUK@sophiasgaler piece updating on investigation into Soul Survivor & the social media output in relation to this. Whatever has happened at Soul Survivor there is a much bigger issue here about the widespread spiritual 🧵1 vice.com/en/article/5d9…
abuse that takes place in much ‘prayer ministry’ in many of @churchofengland churches:
“I had severe mental health issues as a teen and was constantly prayed over at Soul Survivor that I wouldn’t self harm anymore. People would then announce me as healed, which would then /2
make me feel like I failed when I would relapse with my mental health or self-harm,” the woman said. “There was no promotion of mental-health support or therapy.”
There is so much here that does not sit well with a church that wants to promote good mental health for all /3
