Telecommunications companies renew their call to extend the deadline, while encouraging mobile users to register their SIMs.
PLDT and Smart First Vice President Cathy Yang tells us more on #TheSource. | LIVE bit.ly/40lU8n3
SMART says it has reiterated its call for the government to extend the SIM card registration. It adds 55% of its subscribers have already registered their SIM cards.
SMART says it would be a “big help” if the government liberalizes the IDs used in the SIM card registration process: That’s where the problem lies, it’s really the valid government ID that can go into the SIM registration portal.
SMART says that prepaid customers would have to manually input their information into the portal. Meanwhile, postpaid subscribers would have to text “Yes” to 5858 to allow SMART and TNT to use their data in the system in SIM registration.
SMART says that among its 37 million subscribers who have already registered their SIM cards, about 35 million are prepaid customers and about 1.63 million are postpaid customers.
SMART says that if the remaining 45% of their subscribers do not register their SIM cards, their SIMs would be deactivated.
