Aircraft carrier Liaoning's journey last year (right)

One north and one south, both go for Guam...🧵 ImageImage
Guam is the only US military base in the Western Pacific built on US territory.

Other bases are on "allied" nation's territory, which exist in a difficult spot, if the US decides to use them to attack China, since retaliatory strikes will expand the war.
So the only solid option for the US are their carriers and Guam.

Even if you do factor in US bases in allied countries, they are still few and far between.

China's hypersonic missile arsenals can take out US bases and carriers. Image
China's carrier battle groups would then come in to fill in the vacuum and gain control of the sea.

Hypersonic missiles are great for first/ retaliatory strikes, that temporarily disables the enemy.

Carrier operations are still needed for sustained pressure and attack. Image
By the 2030s, China would have a naval fleet of at least 6 aircraft carriers plus numerous Type-076 assault carriers.

More than enough to control the Western pacific after a knockout blow. Image
As always people are bringing up US submarines

Here's a short thread that explains why, when you gain air control over an area, then submarines becomes the hunted ones.

It doesn't matter how quiet your subs are, they can't hide from active sonars.

Intel leaks from the US stated that China would quickly gain air superiority over the island, in a war with Taiwan.

A comprehensive thread that looks into how China will use the air superiority to their advantage...🧵 Image
Taiwan is segmented into population centers situated on isolated plains.

This is to China's advantage.
When it gains air superiority, it will be impossible for Taiwanese forces to redeploy.

Taiwan's defenses will be isolated, each pocket dealing with a large portion of the PLA Image
He who defends everything, defends nothing.

Contrary to popular belief, most of the Western coast of the island is suitable for amphibious landing.

This is how it will play out:
(That is if Taiwan decides to fight until the last man)

And to demonstrate how difficult it is for less developed countries to catch up..🧵
High precision machine tools determines the industrial foundation of a country

Without independence in this sector, you cannot call yourself an independent industrial power.

This is why, machine tools are called the "Mother of all machines" Image
Kede's research have found their innovative AB axis oscillating spindle, is much more efficient than the traditional AC axis when processing aircraft components. Image

Many people sees population as a number NOT as individual human beings that competes for limited resources, especially in less developed countries.

A🧵on the effects of a huge population size on India Image
The core issues revolving population size is access to resources, which determines the levels of prosperity or poverty.

These resources includes nutrition and education

When a child is malnourished and lacks education, they are far less likely to grow up and become middle class Image
In fact, for most children in developing countries, their fate is determined at the start of their lives.

Even if their government is competent, and builds up industries that employs them. At best, they'll be assembly line workers.

This graph shows why low-end manufacturing in China has to move out.

45% of Chinese in their 20s have tertiary education, This is at a developed country level.

These people will not work in low-end manufacturing like making t-shirts or assembling iPhones.

A🧵on implications.
This is the reason why China's economy is in a transitioning phase.

Getting rid of the uncompetitive low-end manufacturing, moving towards a high income economy with a large service sector.

High tech manufacturing will be retained and developed, but they won't compete on price
Which would allow the Chinese yuan to appreciate, through appreciation, low-end manufacturing that competes on cost, won't survive.

As a result, the Chinese people will get richer
by being able to use smaller portion of their income, to import cheap consumer goods.

The Maoist land reforms set the foundation for Deng's economic reforms.

Pre-2016 local governments in China finance their infrastructure and expenditure, by selling the rights to use the land, not possible if not for the land reforms in the 1950s

🧵On the rise of nations.
The local governments in China, turned land into productive industries and infrastructure, the incurred debt would then generate economic return.

This is needed in place of central government borrowing, which developing countries cannot do cheaply.
If you look at the rise of nations across the world, Colonial powers got rich by exploitation, their main asset were LAND.

They stole it from natives and sold it to colonizers, who then convert it into farms/ industries for more profit.

That's how they kick started the process.
