Flying Dogs, Plans For Tina And A Rumble In The Jungle
This mission is about a balance between steps to help street dogs at scale as well as small little touches that make myself, fellow volunteers and people online smile on a daily basis.
There was one last cart ride for Giuseppe yesterday before the lovely gentle boy went for his final sleep.
It’s not easy but for me this is as happy a story as it gets…
Giuseppe was an old street dog who I’ve known for 2 years. He lived a long and happy life on the streets getting fed around some food vendors. He was about 10-12 years old but late last year he was too sick to survive on the streets alone….
For just over 3 months we’ve tried everything from medicines to physio, swimming, acupuncture and even got him his own wheelchair. Sadly Giuseppe was just too old and some other complications were going on inside him as well. … twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Sophia wasn’t expecting to see me this evening. But after my post yesterday about her I shared the news every dog dreams of…
1 foster home ✅
95 offers of forever homes 🏠
She had to pack her little basket and get a private 🚕 and ⛴️ but she’s off the streets forever 🥰🙏
Little Sophia has beaten the odds…
Dumped as a young puppy in jungle 🌴
2 siblings died of Parvo 🥹
4 days isolation to beat Parvo herself ✅
Lived under a shack 🏠
Survived bigger dogs bullying her 🐕
Sterilized✂️
Vaccinated 💉
Beat the storms ☔️ twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
She had to head off on her 3 hour journey to foster care alone with her little basket but she said she wasn’t scared as it’s the first time in her life she feels like things are working out for her and the pressure is off now 🥰🙏
I went to bed at 10pm last night. Jumbo was fast asleep but I left the door ajar if any of the dogs needed the toilet.
Jumbo was still fast asleep this morning but he seemed unusually tired. I thought he was maybe a bit sick…
A tourist couple sent me this message. Look at the time. Cheeky Jumbo now knows to wait for me to sleep and get back home before I’m up. He pretends he is a hungry street dog at 7-11 and gets people to buy him extra meals 😅😅😅
I’ve never known a dog quite like him. He knows about 20-30 humans in the area who love him. All the dogs are also protective of their areas and bark like crazy if other dogs or humans approach. Jumbo walks through all areas slowly without a care in the world. Never phased.
I had to get fridges set up around the island. So volunteers just pick it up there early each morning. Some will mix a little kibble to stretch it (10,000 dogs on the island). Having people hanging it out is key. It also saves them time and money as they all used to buy / make twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
The most satisfying thread you will read today. Sometimes the really simple things with the dogs that are hardest to fix. This is Mr Floofer. I’ve been feeding him daily for a year. Unusually he’s a long haired dog. He’s been suffering in the heat (1/4) 🧵
He lives in the jungle at a coconut farm. He’s tolerated there and I’m allowed to feed him. Because of Rodney / Tina / puppies etc he has slipped down the list of properties. It’s not easy to catch / get dog to groomers / wait etc etc (2/4)
Luckily there is a girl with grooming experience now on the island. So I was able to buy her the gear and bring the grooming to Mr Floofer. He was a very very patient and good boy. It took a couple of hours (3/4)
Derek and Rodney this evening. A photo I dreamt about a lot but truthfully never thought I’d see happen.
A short and very happy thread about the two best boys there ever were… (1/6) 🧵
Rodney the little puppy arrived last Thursday and he had to battle for his life. Watching him try to survive I presumed some of these breaths he was taking would be his very last. He has been battling hard though…(2/6)
Derek is about 10 years old and arrived in a similar condition in late October. He was even closer to death. They both have very similar skin conditions and internal issues… (3/6)
