Age reversal works in primates to restore vision. Announced by my collaborator Dr. Bruce Ksander & @lifebiosciences. Next up: age reversal in humans.
How’s that @elonmusk? 🚀 tinyurl.com/5n6b59kc 1/10…
Congratulations to the teams @harvardmed@MassEyeAndEar and @lifebiosciences, the company I cofounded in 2017 to use longevity science to combat age-related diseases. Couldn’t be prouder! 2/
Here’s Bruce giving his landmark lecture today #ARVO2023. The monkeys were treated with a version of our lab’s inducible AAV-OSK system, which was recently used to extend mouse lifespan 3/
Epigenetic reprogramming is a new frontier. This day comes after many years of work by @lifebiosciences, @MassEyeAndEar & my lab @harvardmed to develop safe age reversal technologies to reset old, damaged tissues. Image: mouse nerves regrowing (Lu, 2020 @Nature) 4/
Epigenetic reprogramming works in monkeys to treat an injury to the retina called NAION, basically a stroke in the back of the eye. There is nothing doctors can do currently to reverse vision loss. Human trials are next at lifebiosciences.com 5/
Pictured on the right is @YuanchengLu, my former PhD student, now a postdoc at MIT, who led the mouse studies with Bruce and me. On the right is Dr. Shinya Yamanaka, who won the 2016 Nobel for discovering genes that turn adult cells into stem cells, on whose shoulders we stand 6/
Sharon Rosenzweig-Lipson, PhD, chief scientific officer of @lifebiosciences, said the company was pleased to present the data, which further validates Life Bio’s innovative approach to cellular rejuvenation.
Amazing! New paper shows biological age rapidly increases during stress & reverses when the stress is relieved. That’s a relief 😅 sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
“Here, we report that biological age is fluid and exhibits rapid changes in both directions. At epigenetic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic levels, we find that the biological age of young mice is increased by heterochronic parabiosis [blood sharing] and restored following… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Congrats, my friend Vadim Gladyshev @harvardmed. I am honored and blessed to work with you 🙏
Lipitor (atorvastatin, 10 mg/d) but not Crestor (Rosuvastatin) activates the longevity enzyme SIRT1, potentially explaining the benefits on inflammation and ED. If you've heard these drugs hurt the brain, read on... 1/3
In a pooled analysis, these drugs, known as statins were associated with a decreased risk of dementia. The black bars are to the left of the center line for most clinical trials, which indicates protection from dementia. 2/3
Study involving 135 obese subjects finds calorie restriction, the 5:2 fasting diet, and a high protein diet (HPD) dramatically improve weight, lipids, and blood glucose within 60 days. HPD worked best. tinyurl.com/5dth48jb
Calorie restriction diet limited daily total energy intake to 500 - 800 kcal. 5:2 diet was to eat healthily 5 d/w and skip meals 2 d/w. The HPD increased protein to 20 - 30% of the daily total energy or 1.5 to 2.0 g/kg bw. Exercise at least 3 x/week for >150 min was recommended
High protein worked best for glucose metabolism and lipids:
The day has arrived. Serena’s App is out, with a library of original articles on ancient & cutting-edge longevity practices, supplements, stress relief, meditation & nutrition. I use it to maximize my performance and health. Try it apps.apple.com/us/app/the-ser…
You can see how some of my biomarkers improved by following the advice of @chefserenapoon — fasting glucose dropped and both inflammation & hsCRP dropped, too.
Serena, a classically-trained chef @lecordonbleu, believes that food is medicine, and she's spent over a year making and entering hundreds of her own great tasting recipes into the App, which, based on your feedback, figures out which meals your body will most benefit from 💪
NMN supplementation was “remarkably capable” of suppressing triple-negative metastasis in 🐁 and the downregulation of SIRT1 is associated with poor outcomes in patients tinyurl.com/vcdpr2d9
With 2.3M new cases a year, breast cancer has surpassed lung cancer as the most frequent.
Dosage: 500mg/kg in water, similar to what we have used in lifespan experiments, not yet published
Delighted to share with you our latest paper. Here, we test the hypothesis that aging may be driven by DNA damage-induced changes to the epigenome. Mightbe due to a glitch in the software of the body that causes it to malfunction, which can be fixed with a reboot?👇 1/
If correct, it means that cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer's might have the same underlying cause that can be reversed to treat or cure age-related conditions with a single treatment. Experiments in the lab are testing this. Here's a link to the new paper 2/ authors.elsevier.com/a/1gPf5L7PXir3R
The age-reversal technology -- virally-delivered genes (Oct4, Sox2, Klf4, aka, Yamanaka factors), which turn on an embryonic program -- is being tested at @lifebiosciences in non-human primates. Results out in a few months from Bruce Ksander's lab & lifebiosciences.com 3/
