few years ago, I was at high street, Baner - stopped for a snack at McD. saw this lady security guard having her lunch quietly, glancing into the stores around her; wistfully staring at the cloudless sky - events at Barsu reminded me of these lines, added a few, read on
1/6
what does she feel, standing guard
in a mcdonalds
waiting for the promised future,
that they had bartered her land for.
no “4 bangle” car awaits her,
no gold adorns her neck and wrists,
avoiding the mistakes her neighbors made,
she waits stoically
2/6
what does she feel, as her hands touch,
the glass still keeping her out of,
the fancy turf built,
on her children’s playground.
does she miss the open sky,
that the skyscrapers now stifle,
the air in them, cooled and recirculated,
but never really free
3/6
will she need, like me,
few pills for vitamin D,
cut away from the sun,
her life like mine, now largely spent indoors.
teenagers hang around,
waiting for the next order on a food app,
they grew food once,
now they just compete to deliver.
4/6
looking at all the empty glitter around her
does she forgive the genie
who promised her 3 wishes
& left before delivering the first one
does she regret her decision to sell
still hold on with hope
as she watches people chase a neon god
dreams mixed with ash at his feet
5/6
and the dreams now oily and refined
get bandied again
she will be happy
that mistakes are not getting repeated
that her sisters have risen, as one
and not fallen prey to lures aplenty
they battle to keep their land
these brave mothers of democracy 6/6 #No_To_Barsu_Refinery

a notion of development which is not acceptable to the people it purports to be for, should be discarded. any idea which is not in synch with nature should be let go of. people who are revered as gods during election suddenly are looked as not knowing what is good for them 1/n
this picture is so symbolic of how the present day administration treats its citizens/voters. Like subjects. Like slaves who have to do their bidding at all times. once in 5 years all they have to do is press the right button - sometimes even that is not required.

the brave ladies of Konkan are leading the fight forward. They will not back down. The government has pushed the can (literally) down the coast - desperate to get this project running. they failed before and they will fail again. I say again - bring the refinery to Mumbai

this project needs to be stopped before Konkan becomes just another sepia tinted memory. Everyone who has visited this beautiful place, paused for a while, soaked in its fantastic views and relished some fabulous food, needs to support the agitation. 1/6

united they stand, their voice needs to be amplified, this beautiful part of our great state needs to be preserved. administration is resorting to its notices on the doors, nocturnal visits, stoppage of assembly. more tricks will follow.

an alternative development model more in synch with the environment and hand in hand with nature - horticulture, fruit processing, fishery, calibrated tourism is clearly being articulated. Folks of Konkan know what they need

part 1 of some thoughts penned by a good friend. She is reading @niranjan_takle sir's book

my fitbit reveals
that I wake up
most nights now
somewhere in between
REM, deep and light stages
na, it’s not you may think
no demons on my tail
no surge of any desire
its just me
no longer wearing
a younger man’s clothes*
getting up to pee

what it does not capture
are the times
i wander in the dark
the times i fire up twitter
and stumble upon a Space
marvelling at how much
people can speak
and at how many
stories they have to tell
2/n
what it does not capture
is that sliver
of moonlight
breaking free from
that one untinted window
in our room
calming me
when I can’t find
my inhaler in the dark

Avanti was born on 25.11.08. I remember she was kinda pink, bathed in some kind of greenish liquid and extremely beautiful. It is a moment that stays with every parent I guess; the first time you see your child.
1/11
The next day began on a normal Mumbai note, as cold as it can get in November, nothing out of the ordinary in terms of traffic. I remember spending the day in hospital meeting people who had dropped in to wish us well and say hello to Avanti.
2/11
The day drew to a close and it was around 11:00 p.m. that I decided to head back home.
We had absolutely no clue about what was unfolding in South Mumbai — no TV in the hospital. I remember wondering that something seemed off, there was hardly any traffic
