Welcome to @genspect's pretty ground-breaking gathering of experts, activists and some of the transgender cult's most well-known casualties. Not far from here, @wpath, the public relations body of the cult, is holding its own gathering. 1/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
@wpath, in their latest guidelines, not only removed the section on ethics - they also added a section on eunuchs. It is not a respectable organisation. 2/
Alisdair Gunn talks about how Genspect's rival conference in this lost corner of Ireland came about: over a chat in a cafe with @stellaomalley3. It seemed unlikely to be a success, but the reaction (and the crowd) says otherwise. 3/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
Stella O'Malley says this event is necessary because the ideology that underlies transgenderism must not go unchallenged. Some of the people here - parents and detransitioners - are devastated. She talks of her first encounter with these destroyed lives. 4/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
She talks of lying doctors and quirky kids - "Somebody tells you you can take some medicine and you can be a different person." When they (the trans kids) realise they've made a mistake, they are discharged and discarded. 5/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
The atmosphere of the @wpath conference, also happening in Killarney today, is very upbeat and positive, says @stellaomalley3 but when you get into the content of their "standards of care" (a misnomer), and encounter things like eunuchs and NB, it's clearly a charade. 6/
We're not trying to say we have the answers, says @stellaomalley3, we are saying we need to have a discussion. She encourages the mental health professionals to talk to the feminists and the activists and the medical doctors and the teachers. #GenspectBiggerPicture 7/
This is the @genspect "big tent" that we are trying to create, she says. "People are starting to come to the realisation that there are other perspectives."
"This is part of getting ourselves out of this mess we are in." #GenspectBiggerPicture 8/
@HJoyceGender: When did she get interested in this topic? She discovered that some people "really really meant it when they said men could be women." When she realised lesbians were being called bigots for refusing to date trans "women" - she was hooked. #GenspectBiggerPicture 9/
Where ideology meets healthcare:
@HJoyceGender: "I wrote my book because I looked at those detransitioners - they are where ideology meets healthcare, and the whole thing explodes." 10/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
Most people don't act until they realise it's hurting kids, says @HJoyceGender. "So you ask yourself 'why don't they leave the kids alone?" They would probably get away with it if they did, she says. "Men in women's prisons, men in women's sports" etc. 11/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
@HJoyceGender quotes @JonHaidt, who believes we are teaching kids: "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you weaker". Mentions his ideas about "anti-cognitive behavioural therapy". 12/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
Should people be expected to live up to the constraints of society, or is self-actualisation more important? A liberal democracy is an attempt to marry those ideas - but the liberal side "has been pushed to an extreme" says @HJoyceGender 13/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
"Coercively assigned at birth" - that's a new one. @HJoyceGender 14/
"We are reconstructing society as if everyone is running one-man shows. But everyone is a supporting actor, not just your audience." @HJoyceGender 15/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
There is a reframing of transgenderism as a human rights cause, by adopting the language etc. - but it's incompatible with human rights because subjective identities trump everything else. @HJoyceGender 16/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
"People walking into gender clinics think they are getting healthcare. I think of gender clinics increasingly as a stage where people go to perform their gender" - at least the gender clinicians are treating it that way. 17/@HJoyceGender#GenspectBiggerPicture
@MForstater's up next: tells the story of her court case again. No matter how many times I hear it, it still sounds completely bananas. "It's transphobic" - two words - "kicked off this panic." 18/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
That a man is a man and a woman is a woman - "they call it a philosophical belief, which sounds fancy" but it's "what your grandmother believes" says @MForstater lol 19/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
Any similar Forstater-type Irish court case will be complicated by the fact that the Irish gov didn't transpose the EU law correctly - religion is protected but not philosophical belief - @MForstater 20/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
Maya Forstater recently contributed as a witness in the @Rianne_Vogels tribunal, and she noticed Norway mirrored the UK context - the same organisations, the same pressures... she and @HJoyceGender hope the UK successes can be reproduced elsewhere 24/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
Question time: @ThoughtfulTs asks: why is the gov making hate crimes laws and other unnecessary laws? @HJoyceGender says govs pass laws just because. @MForstater: re conversion therapy - they noticed it when self-ID failed. "It's a great bit of marketing - but it's nonsense."
From @TheCountessIE: "go into schools, question the resources, and ask to opt out. That will become more pertinent in the coming months as the curriculum is rolled out." /26
What about the situation in the non-English speaking world? someone asks. The closer you are culturally to the US, the sooner it took hold, says Helen Joyce. Each country context will be different in how they solve this. 27/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
Haha some Jamaican guy stands up and says "this is the epitome of a first-world problem" and everyone laughs looooool 28/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
The NGOs that are trans-captured but who also deal in the developing world - they are inconsistent - orgs like @AmnestyUK will say the UK must have mixed sex toilets but refugee camps should not, says @MForstater 29/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
The international development scene: people in the developing world - they will put pronouns in their bio to please the donors. That's pretty messed up. 30/ #GenspectBiggerPicture

Lisa Littman is talking about her paper, that came out 5 years ago, in which she proposed ROGD. @genspect#GenspectBiggerPicture 1/
@LisaLittman1 got emails from therapists thanking her for her research, telling her they had witnessed ROGD in their own practice. But the research, she said, "touched a nerve." Knowing laughs break out in the room. 2/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
There are different transition pathways, and this "bigger picture" is lost in conversations about gender dysphoria, says @LisaLittman1 3/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
Conversion therapy bans: @stellaomalley3 is going to talk about @genspect's reaction to a report on conversion therapy carried out by @tcddublin. These bans are very badly worded, she says - is it cluelessness or something else? 1/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
"My criticism of the conversion therapy bans is that they are useless. It doesn't happen." I know from my own research that this is the same in Belgium and France, too. 2/
She talks about post-modern conversion therapy. "They have changed the definition of conversion therapy to include gender identity and gender expression. They are conflating 3 things." 2/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
@genspect Alasdair Gunn takes the stage. Talks about how he met a bunch of parents of trans boys, about whom not much had been written at all, published about it in @Quillette. 1/
Alasdair was groomed online as a kid, which turned him into a paedophile hunter (a couple of men went to prison.) He started to wonder if "trans" boys were being groomed too. "Now," he says "they can just say 'gender'" #GenspectBiggerPicture 2/
He talks about his experience as a cancer patient. He goes to see his doctor, she asks about exercise, diet, friends. "She doesn't do that because she thinks I'm interesting - it's because she's treating me." 3/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
Panel with @cwknews@sueevansprotect and @stellaomalley3. A woman from the States asks Davies-Arai about book bans in her country. There is an instinct to ban the books - but getting rid of the books will not make these beliefs disappear. 1/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
@cwknews: I think the answer is education because you won't put this genie back in the bottle. Provide alternatives, like @RooneyRachel's My Body Is Me. We need more books that challenge the idea you have to change your body. @Transgendertrd has another one in the pipeline. 2/
I'm glad nobody tried to take my pain away from me when I was growing up, says Davies-Arai. Clinical psychologist gets up and says yes, we need alternatives. But the UK institutions will just see alternatives as transphobic. 3/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
Here's @sueevansprotect at the @genspect event. "Listening yesterday reminded me about how complex we all are - we shouldn't apply definitive statements in this area." 1/
Starts talking about minds, babies and Freud stuff. Some people deal better with trauma, but we all have to learn that we don't always come first, to separate from our carers, and deal with it. That makes healthy minds. 2/
She said the kids coming to GIDS (Tavistock) reminded her of the adolescents she saw who had anorexia, other mental health disorders. Some of them had "cut themselves off", like "something has been gotten rid of." There was a deadness about them - monosyllabic answers. 3/
Stephanie Davies-Arai (@cwknews) next up at @genspect conference. She wants to talk about the concept of "trans kids". Shows an old pic of two tomboys dressed in typical boy clothes. What happened to these 2 girls? 1/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
The picture was her and her sister. She struggled against puberty and womanhood - or more precisely, she was struggling against what society told her a woman was in a sexist 70s culture.
The cultural landscape for girls has gotten so intense - Instagram, with its impossible standards, violent and degrading porn on smartphones... and gender identity is being taught in schools as fact. 3/ #GenspectBiggerPicture
