42-year-old Yana Renk was killed on February 26 near the village of Kukhari, Kyiv Region. She was on her way to feed homeless animals when she was shot by a Russian sniper. 1/4

Yana lived in Irpin near Kyiv. In Poland, she graduated from the Boleslaw Prus Warsaw Higher Humanitarian School. 2/4

Vira Prokopenko from Mariupol started rescuing animals in 2014. She helped find shelter for more than 50 animals. 1/4 Image
During the russian advance on Mariupol, the city was under heavy fire. Vira spent 12 days in the basement. She ran out to feed the cats whenever she got the chance. On March 11, 2022, a fire broke out there due to shelling. All animals died from carbon monoxide poisoning. 2/4 Image

Ivan Ivanov was an ordinary Ukrainian teenager. He liked video games and spending time with his friends. It seemed that he had a whole life ahead of him but then it was cut down by a russian bullet. 1/6
Ivan was the first and very desired child of the Ivanov family from Kyiv. Vanya was a kind boy, he eagerly helped his mother in the household, and when the youngest daughter Dasha was born, he loved playing with his baby sister. 2/6
One month before the full-scale invasion they celebrated Ivan`s 15th birthday on January 23, 2022. Iryna could not find candles with the numbers "1" and "5" for the cake so she bought the only ones they had at the store: "8" and "7". 3/6

When Volodymyr was injured in 2018 doctors gave him little chance of survival and yet he persevered. He received treatment in Ukraine and Germany. The doctors literally put them back on their feet. 2/5
Despite that, he joined the ranks of the local Territorial Defense Unit in his hometown of Lutsk. Volodymyr`s mother says that she did not even try to stop him. She knew it would be no use. Still, he wanted to be in the thick of things and headed out to the frontline. 3/5
