NEW: 6 Dem and 6 GOP Senators wrote to Biden asking why his administration is not funding the DHS program that seizes illegal Iranian oil and gas shipments.
That program had seized nearly $228M in oil linked to the IRGC since 2019. Treasury cut off funds to the program in FY22.
75% of the proceeds from those seized oil shipments used to go to victims of Iran's terrorism.
Now that we're not seizing Iran's oil, the #IRGCterrorists have even more money to support terrorism across the world.
It's really unacceptable that this important initiative is being sidelined.
Fortunately, this is a bipartisan concern. Thanks to @SenJoniErnst & @SenBlumenthal for leading this important oversight effort.
Meanwhile, today Iran seized an oil tanker headed for the United States.
Even in 2019 when Iran was seizing and bombing tankers, they never took one linked to the U.S. apnews.com/article/iran-u…

Did you know that the EU has promised to end its arms embargo to Iran this October?
That UN sanctions on Iran selling drones and missiles expires this October too?
That all UN sanctions on Iran end in <31 months, perhaps permanently?
If not, this THREAD is for you.🧵
Back in 2006-2010, the UN Security Council unanimously passed six resolutions against Iran.
These permanently prohibited Iran from conducting all arms sales, uranium enrichment, plutonium reprocessing, ballistic missiles tests/development, and much more.
In 2015, international negotiators made two agreements with Iran: the JCPOA and UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
Instead of keeping permanent restrictions on Iran, they let all UN sanctions on Iran expire – regardless of whether the regime kept to its side of the bargain.
VICTORY. After a year exposing and shaming Biden's approval for a $10 billion nuke deal between Russia and Iran, the @StateDept has finally backed down and cancelled it!
But they are STILL giving sanctions immunity to other Russia-Iranian work... (1/4)
But the @StateDept is still allowing Russia (through state-owned company Rosatom) to help Iran at the Bushehr nuclear site's reactor, to provide fresh nuclear fuel, and to remove spent nuclear fuel.
We shouldn't be giving them MORE business. They just hit record annual profits.
🧵Despite Iran sending 100s of drones and missiles to Russia in violation of UNSCR 2231, the @StateDept still refuses to support snapping back UN sanctions on Iran.
Today, @NedPrice explained why: Russia might veto the attempt to return UN sanctions. That's embarrassingly wrong.
First, some history.
In case you don't remember, Joe Biden promised in 2015 that Russian or Chinese opposition to snapback wouldn't matter...don't take my word for it!
This was Obama's huge talking point when he sold the JCPOA to Americans.
"All of the sanctions can snap back into place. We won’t need the support of other members of the U.N. Security Council, America can trigger snap back on our own.”
(2/5) Iran did not provide access to the sites until late August 2020. That was EIGHT months of no IAEA monitoring and verification.
Then, the IAEA found secret traces of uranium particles at those undeclared sites, where Iran said there was never nuclear activity.
(3/5) Iran claimed the uranium traces were "contamination" from other sites' equipment. So the IAEA checked the particles at the other sites. They didn't match. Iran was lying.
The IAEA said Iran provided "implausible answers" as a "typical delaying tactic".
THREAD: DOJ's latest filings on the Bolton assassination attempt show the US Gov't is *failing* to deter Iran from targeting our former leaders.
They also show Iran continued to pursue the assassinations DURING negotiations with @USEnvoyIran in Vienna.
Background: Iran has been looking to kill @mikepompeo, John Bolton, Brian Hook, and other US generals since 2020.
These threats escalated throughout early 2021. DOJ documents prove that from Nov. 9, 2021 onwards, an IRGC handler was asking for the immediate killing of Bolton.
In the next two months, the Iranians continued their assassination plots, but there was zero public statement from the U.S. government criticizing Iran for this.
