2/ Stelian was born in #Ukraine and lived through the #Holodomor — a Soviet-engineered famine that killed millions of Ukrainians.
When he was 11, his father was executed for refusing to join a collective farm.
In 1943, Stelian was drafted into the Red Army and sent to the front.
3/ “They took him when he was either 16 or 17,” says his granddaughter Diana.
“They weren’t supposed to — he had no training at all.
The moment he poked his head out of the trench, he was almost killed.”
Viktoria Roshchyna was not a soldier.
She was a journalist.
She entered Russian-occupied territory to report on the war from the ground.
She was captured and held in Russian captivity.
Now, her body has been returned to Ukraine.
