Vira Prokopenko from Mariupol started rescuing animals in 2014. She helped find shelter for more than 50 animals. 1/4
During the russian advance on Mariupol, the city was under heavy fire. Vira spent 12 days in the basement. She ran out to feed the cats whenever she got the chance. On March 11, 2022, a fire broke out there due to shelling. All animals died from carbon monoxide poisoning. 2/4

When Volodymyr was injured in 2018 doctors gave him little chance of survival and yet he persevered. He received treatment in Ukraine and Germany. The doctors literally put them back on their feet. 2/5
Despite that, he joined the ranks of the local Territorial Defense Unit in his hometown of Lutsk. Volodymyr`s mother says that she did not even try to stop him. She knew it would be no use. Still, he wanted to be in the thick of things and headed out to the frontline. 3/5
