1) His response was antithetical to what we expect the great ones to say after a disappointing end to a season. We’ve seen the answers from Jordan/0Kobe all expressing that anything short of a championship is failure. And for them, it was 100% true and authentic to who they were.
2) I believe what Giannis said was incredibly healthy, particularly when it comes to a mental health perspective. He’s not saying he’s checked out or doesn’t care, rather he recognizes the reality of the situation. It’s really damn hard to be the last team standing every year.
3) Rather than assess every one of those years as so-called “failures,”he’s found a meaningful way to process the end result and turn the negative into an opportunity for positive personal growth and development.
4) Lastly, let’s not forget it was Michael Jordan who said, “I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life, and that is why I succeed.”
Yes, the word “failure” is used, but I’d argue the concept of finding success through failure is the same concept Giannis describes.
5) Especially in the sports betting/fantasy media community, how often do we reference, “Process over results?” Almost daily, right?
“Mental health… is not a destination, but a process. It’s about how you drive, not where you’re going." — @tgpsychologist
6) I know there will be plenty who disagree, and that’s fine. I just think Giannis’ response warrants being viewed in a new light.
Plus, he still showed up, was held accountable, and answered the difficult questions postgame, which is more than Dillon Brooks can say… 🍵 🐸
7) Very curious to hear your guys’ perspective… Thanks for sticking around this long!
