If you’re #PreWGA or a non-writer, here are some ideas on how you can support the #WGAstrike… 1) If you’re in the L.A. or NYC areas, join a picket line. Coordinate w/ friends to ensure that key locations have ample numbers of picketers...
1/
2) #CancelNetflixAndChill Wherever you’re based, cancel your streaming subscriptions (esp. Netflix). If the streamer asks why you’re cancelling, say that you refuse to support a company that doesn’t support the writers whose work generates the profits that line its pockets...
3/
Take that money and support films from underrepresented filmmakers showing at your local theater. Your favorite TV shows will be waiting for you once the strike ends.
4/
3) Follow @WGAWest & @WGAEast across all platforms, turn notifications on and repost information on the strike and contract negotiations.
5/
4) Wherever you’re based in the world, if you lead your own union, guild, or organization/non-profit (esp. if it’s labor- or industry-related), sign it on as an endorser of the WGA’s contract campaign—it takes 30 seconds and will cost you nothing: wgacontract2023.org/take-action/st…
6/
6) *If you are able* and have willing contacts in the L.A. or NYC areas, send them supplies or funds to cover supplies (e.g. bottled water, bottled coffee drinks, individually packaged snacks, travel-sized sunscreen, hand sanitizer & tissues etc.) to be delivered at...
8/
picket locations listed at the link above, or deliver them yourself if you’re local. Throw a care bag party w/ friends & family to package supplies into individual zip lock bags or similar that you can distribute immediately to writers to save on space and trash @ picket sites
9/
7) *If you are able*, cover transportation/ride share costs for writers to/from picket lines. If you’re local and have a car, drive them to/from picket lines via designated pick-up/drop-off points (like a subway station or bus stop)...
10/
Either way, you’ll save them parking concerns (esp. L.A. writers) and they will thank you for it.
8) ***DON’T SCAB, DON'T SCAB, DON'T SCAB, DON'T SCAB, JUST DON'T DO IT!***
11/
9) Remember that members of @IATSE, one of the most active unions in entertainment and among the WGA’s biggest supporters, will also be impacted by the strike. Show solidarity and reach out and ask how you can support the hard-working crews...

that bring TV and film projects to life through the strike.

🧵 on your health & well-being thru the #WGAstrike #WGAstrong#WGAsolidarity
This is a gentle reminder that, while spirits and energy will be high this week, the WGA strike is a marathon, not a race. The weeks following will be hard and scary... 1/
Stay hydrated and fed while at picket sites and use sun protection. Be sure to rest; this includes taking breaks from social media and updates around the strike. 2/
Create a rotation w/ friends on the ground to prevent burnout; Monday.com has a great, *FREE* template you can use. Sit down to budget your finances/expenses and take time to search for and lock in work that won't break the strike rules... 3/
If you keep one streaming service through the #WGAstrike, make it @Shudder. Shudder is owned by AMC, but they receive little funding from AMC to pay their employees a living wage and to source and manage their content.
1/
Shudder's staff is also the first to feel the effects of any cuts or layoffs at AMC. @NyxHorror has had the pleasure to work with the good folx at Shudder ... They are passionate about #horror and #thrillers. They are passionate about indie film.
2/
They work their assess off for pennies to support indie horror and thriller filmmakers, including women & BIPOC, to give those creators a platform for their work that they likely wouldn't have otherwise. They believe in writers. They believe in the power of indie projects. 3/
🧵A lot of writers are discouraged right now and understandably so ... But maybe there are things we can do to lift our spirits in an increasingly hostile industry. These are just ideas, not gospel.
1) Learn about producing. This is an extremely useful skill that will serve us well as writers, esp. those of us looking to showrun our own series one day. It means we have a better understanding of how the busines side of this crazy industry works...
and that's becoming more and more relevant. It also means that we're learning how to be decision-makers ourselves, that we'd be gaining *experience* at being decision-makers, and perhaps that's a way to get a foot in the door and hold it open for others. Start small...
