'Wear a mask—save yourself!' Covid expert Prof. Dr.
Prof. Dr. Sanjeev Bagai warned during a recent interview about the current #xbb116#ArcturusCovid#SARS3 & about 'new kinds of mutations' seen in new strains that are spawning rapidly such as XB2.3 and rising deaths twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
'My advice to everyone is please wear a simple mask
well fitting n95 mask don't use it as a fashion statement wear it to protect yourself even a mild infection asymptomatic infection of XBB can cause
long-term organ damage and immune dysfunction lasting up to eight months..
...there is no point in taking a risk—wear a mask—save yourself! The Dr said on Indian news station, Times of India, about the current surge.
Further, he warned about the rapid mutating XBB116 which he says is already spawning out yet more mutated strains at a rapid pace:
'We have started seeing deaths too — we were earlier seeing XBB 1.16 but now we are seeing XBB 1.16.1 and XBB 2.3 which has a new kind of mutation so we know
that this is mutating quickly this is going to evade our immune system and the vaccine immune system..
Full video is from 2 weeks ago and is here, first aired on the times of India: much has been about the alleged peak since then: however, cases remain high:
Why is it that Indian people are being told to wear a mask and protect themselves by, not just this Dr on the news, but also their far-right Prime Minister while the public has been told nothing:
According to the sequencing we apparently have low levels of this strain so far in the UK: when India had low levels 2 months ago their PM warned them that 'Covid is far from over' and launched a 5 fold strategy to curb the spread: why is it being ignored entirely here?… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
'in offices in schools colleges a simple message of masking will protect against endless and endless of infections :my advice to everyone is please wear a simple mask—well fitting n95 mask don't use it as a
fashion statement wear it..
..to protect yourself even a mild infection asymptomatic infection of Xbb can cause long-term organ damage and immune dysfunction lasting up to eight months: it is no point taking a risk—wear a mask—save yourself!'
We have never even had close to that kind of advice in UK
What the Dr said on the Indian mainstream news, and what Modi said months ago at the 'high level' meeting would be considered extremist statements by the mainstream's deranged standards in the West
The immune 'dysfunction' as he put is, doesn;t stop at 8 months: but none the less, that's a far more accurate set of statements about this virus than you'll ever hear in the West
I will stress, however, that we still do not have enough conclusive data to say what's going on with this strain or these apparent new mutants: we have indications that it's potentially more severe: we do not have clear evidence of it being the case twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
However, just as with any of these strains, we simply won't have any conclusive evidence until long after the surge: take for instance Delta:
After months of tracking this whole saga, we still remain largely clueless: the only data we have so far that's of worth does not paint a good picture: but we really need BETTER DATA and THEY JUST STOPPED TESTING basically and TRACKING in the West
I know everyone wants a a definitive answer right now: but that's actually missing the point: the point is no Covid strain is a 'good one' to be infected with: better or worse than any old one is actually quite meaningless: all COVID IS BAD
Whatever you want to make of India's response to whatever is going on over there: they have made, at least, it is reported they have made, good efforts to avoid a devastating surge: and for that they do deserve credit
And even in fairness to Modi, he came out pretty fast and said 'covid is far from over' and told the public what he was going to do to tackle the surge: the 5 fold strategy: and he did hold a high level meeting:
Whether this has amounted to much in practise, I don't know, but I do know even that is a lot better than anything we've heard from our learners: which is precisely nothing on Covid expect 'it's over and mild' —both of which are astonishing lies

I don't know if hospital occupancy is a measure of much, because in the UK, I can't spoeak for India here, but where we are, hospitals basically refuse to take the sick and dying during a surge: so that's a measure of little
I have explained that in the thread: but I would be interested to know, from this 'Health' editor at the Economist if they think Modi's plan to fight this strain is sensible or fear mongering?
What I'm saying is based on years of work: much of which nobody outside of this circle pays any attention to: which is the way I like it: because this is only for people who are interested in the science of it and care: it's not for herd immunity people
for those who don't know how science works you take a representative sample for these kinds of workings out: from that it can be used to estimate a population level effect. So don't ask me why there's only 8 deaths on that chart — that's why: it's the proportion and distribution… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
'The study reveals that XBB.1.16* lineage has become the most predominant SARS-CoV-2 lineage in India. The study also shows that the clinical features and outcome of XBB.1.16* cases were similar to those of other cocirculating Omicron lineage infected cases in Maharashtra, India'… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
The co-circulating strains they compared xbb116b too are almost all xbb strains: and they ARE ALL SARS3 strains:
So they are comparing SARS3 TO SARS3
If you understand how to read this then you understand that statement in the paper is meaningless: which is why i didn't include it
