Keenious is an AI-powered app that will supercharge your academic reading and writing.

It's your personal research assistant inside MS Word and will save you a lot of time and labor.

But most academics don't know much about it.

Here's how to get started on Keenious:
Go to keenious(dot)com and sign up for a free account by clicking on "Get Keenious!" in the top-right corner.
This is how the your Keenious homepage would look like.

You can look up research articles using complete text of a paper.

This option is not available in Google Scholar and many other AI-powered apps.
Here I am uploading a PDF of a journal article.

Keenious has suggested papers based on the whole text of the article I uploaded.
Keenious lets you filter these article by citation count.

For example, here I am filtering articles that have more than 10 citations.
You can also filter articles by time period.

Here I am filtering articles that were published between 2020 and 2023.
Keenious does not just work with published articles.

You can upload your own unpublished draft and Keenious will help you find relevant articles.

Here I am uploading the draft of an article.

Keenious doesn't have any word limits.
Simply click on the title of a suggested article and Keenious will open its abstract for you.
Want to learn about more AI-powered apps to supercharge your your academic writing?

I have a complete tutorial for you. It has 14 modules and 250+ slides.

It's being used by academics at Harvard, Stanford, and Columbia.

You can get it here:

ChatGPT prompts for academic purposes that will save you a lot of time and labor:
1. Explain to me like I am five years old

Before you start reading a research paper, run its abstract/summary through ChatGPT and ask it to explain the paper like you are five years old.

I recently used this prompt at a workshop at SDU's Center for Muscle and Joint Health.
Some colleagues were discussing a paper that had just come out in Lancet.

Since this is not my field, I didn't know what they were talking about.

I ran the paper through ChatGPT and asked it to explain like I am five years old. A research paper on low bac...

Frontloading your argument is a crucial aspect of academic writing.

But many academics don't know about it.

Here's what frontloading is and how to do it with the help of ChatGPT:
Frontloading means placing your argument in the start of your abstract, journal article, dissertation, etc.

For example, a frontloaded abstract usually starts something like this:

"This article argues/investigates/examines..."
The old-fashioned way is to first cite several references and then "arrive" at your argument.

E.g.,

X argued this. Y said that. Z said that.

Building on X, Y, Z's works my papers looks at...

Graduate students often write this way.

This makes you look insecure as a scholar.
