so the ru military commander went to inspect a tank brigade inside russia (not ukr) to show off all the new T90s. i think the video quality was to hide something... most are not T90s.. T62Ms standing in for the missing T90s
can you jam a GPS signal and mess with a GPS guided munition..
YES
BUT 1. it has to be a large unit to be any good,
and in doing so it will put out a huge EM signature.. thats easy to find and kill. 2. it has to be big, for it to cover a large area it cant be a hand held.
3. the gps jammer would probably have to be truck mounted and in this world would be tracked and killed.
4. any place that has a GPS jammer is jamming for a reason. instant high value target.
so many people asking about the Kh-47M2 interception today.
as a former ADA guy here is the answer..
YES the patriot probably hit it and brought it down.
the Kh-47M2 is really a adaptation of the standard surface to surface msl just adapted for air launch.
the newer patriot have and can hit ballistic targets as longas they have enough time to get in front of the target. so the KH is not a super weapon, its russia overhyping something that was a stop gap.. again.
if 30 years ago they (patriot) could bring down SS1 scuds in the desert going faster and higher than the KH. why are people freaking out about or questioning, why better, faster, and more advanced patriots can bring down the KH junk.
people think that air defense is this shield that you can put over a city in peace time that can stop anything.
nothing can be farther than the truth, background clutter, buildings, slow target, political and safety issues, what will do more damage target or rocket hitting the ground.
much of the worlds ground air defense is gone. the mission given to the air force
and when you fire a rocket....
it will come down. so do you fire a 2000kg rocket at a hobby drone that may or may not crash on its own or do you let it continue.
ok everyone i was ADA (air defense) in the US army for years. and i was training and ada opfor.
i CAN tell you that a small drone made of plastic, fiberglass or foam, flying with a gas motor with the exhaust ducted back through the body..
flying about 500-1000 ft AGL
would be hard as hell to see or engage with air defense equipment..
most fighters would be useless (they fly too fast to engage with guns)
and most air defense would be (white - hold)
white = attack not expected
hold = you would need to get permission to fire
for the first rocket to be fired in the sky over moscow would be a be heart breaking event.
much like the doolittle raid, this would bring the war home.
my take on the kremlin "attack"
with the information i have at hand i think its real.
1. over the last month or so many drones from ukr have gone down closer and closer to moscow.
2. it seems they are using a drone with little metal and a prop motor. this is a hard target to bring down with traditional heat seeking rockets.
3. as with the attack on the AWACS aircraft in Belarus a local unit attacked it without national authorization
4. i have not seen any AAA (air defense cannon) deployed in a good firing position around moscow. it would be a bad look for tracers going over moscow. but its the best system for drones like this.
