How Advertising is secretly changing our food preferences without us even realizing it?

1/10 Image
Advertisements have a powerful influence on what we eat and drink. It can even impact our health as well.

Did you know that the average person sees over 5,000 advertisements per day?
Persuasive Techniques

Advertisements use persuasive techniques such as emotional appeals, repetition, and endorsements to make their products desirable.

These techniques can trigger specific emotions and memories that influence our food choices.
Food advertisements often promote unhealthy, processed, and high-calorie products that can lead to obesity, diabetes, and other health problems.

The sudden rise in global obesity shouldn't surprise us.
Children are particularly vulnerable to advertising, and exposure to unhealthy food advertisements can lead to poor dietary habits and long-term health consequences in our children.
In the world of social media advertisements, it has become worse. Those platforms use algorithms to track our interests, behaviour, and preferences, making it easy for advertisers to target specific demographics and tailor their advertisements.
So can we do anything about it?

The one simple thing you can do is -

Make a grocery list before shopping and stick to it to avoid impulse purchases.
Also, practice mindful eating by paying attention to your hunger and fullness cues and avoiding distractions while eating.
Let's make informed food choices and resist the influence of advertising to live a happier and healthier life. #InformedChoices #HealthyLiving

Is rapid weight loss safe?

Does it work? Is it effective?

Let's answer these questions for you.

A healthy thread. 🧵 twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Many people try to lose weight quickly by doing a lot of exercise or by following a "crash diet".

Rapid weight loss is never the way to go. It can hurt our long-term weight loss goals and overall health.
So what is healthy weight loss?

According to experts, losing 450-900 grams a week is a healthy and safe weight loss rate.

Losing more than that is considered too fast and could put us at risk of many health problems.

Okay now, let me present you another Deepika. Image
You're just meeting her for the first time but chances are you're already making assumptions about her-

“She never exercises”
“She must be eating a lot.”
“How does she even sit on the chair”

Because you know she's obese. Image
There are lots of Deepika's out there.

Maybe you're one of them or maybe you know a Deepika. She is one of your friends, relatives or maybe your family members. Image

Do you always finish your meal?

If yes, this thread is just for you. Image
From a young age we are taught to finish all the food on our plate.

In India, there's a sentiment attached to it - We regard food as "Annapurna Devi"(Annapurna goddess) and hence the massive respect towards food.

But some of us finishes the plate to avoid food wastage.
...but here's the problem -

While I appreciate the sentiment, there’s a lot of problems with this.

It leads to:
-overeating and hence weight gain
-messes with our hunger awareness which makes it difficult to know when we’re hungry and when full.
