Here's an app to supercharge your literature review — Connected Papers.

Simply enter the title of a paper and it will generate a graph of connected papers.

Here's how to use it:
Go to connectedpapers(dot)com and sign up for an account.
You can look up papers using their titles, DOIs, or URLs.

Here I am entering title of a paper.

After entering the title, click on "Build a graph."
Connected Papers will create a graph of papers related to your original paper.

It will also show you how these papers are connected to one another.
Every circle in the graph is a paper.

Click on it and you can read its abstract in the right-hand panel.

If you find a paper interesting, you can use it to create another graph.
Connected Papers also show you prior and derivate works related to the graph.

A very useful feature for literature review.
If you find a paper useful, you can save it.

To do so, simply click on the "Save" button in the right-hand panel.

Don't use ChatGPT for scientific research. It generates fake citations to papers that don't even exist.

Instead, use System Pro — a AI-powered search engine designed for research.

Ask it a question and it'll give you a summary of relevant (published) papers with citations.
Go to pro(dot)system(dot)com and simply type in your question.

System Pro will retrieve relevant papers and generate a summary for you along with citations.
This summary contains 56 citations. I don't think any other tool provides this kind of detail.

To look at a cited source, click on the footnote and System Pro will take you to the relevant paper.

It will also give you details about the study's findings, population, etc.

ChatGPT prompts for academic purposes that will save you a lot of time and labor:
1. Explain to me like I am five years old

Before you start reading a research paper, run its abstract/summary through ChatGPT and ask it to explain the paper like you are five years old.

I recently used this prompt at a workshop at SDU's Center for Muscle and Joint Health.
Some colleagues were discussing a paper that had just come out in Lancet.

Since this is not my field, I didn't know what they were talking about.

I ran the paper through ChatGPT and asked it to explain like I am five years old. A research paper on low bac...

It's your personal research assistant inside MS Word and will save you a lot of time and labor.

But most academics don't know much about it.

Here's how to get started on Keenious:
Go to keenious(dot)com and sign up for a free account by clicking on "Get Keenious!" in the top-right corner.
This is how the your Keenious homepage would look like.

You can look up research articles using complete text of a paper.

This option is not available in Google Scholar and many other AI-powered apps.
