This is gross. Also, @PunchbowlNews makes its money mainly by trading in insider info to large corporations with interests in DC.
So much of their audience is Republicans. Surprise! He says things Republicans like.
Here's Punchbowl's description:
"chart power ... focus on the congressional leadership, people around them, corporations, White House"
"Washington insiders... Punchbowl target market"
"Premium subscribers"
This is a news site that sells inside scoops to lobbyists.
Punchbowl is Republican-biased because they're corporate-biased and money-biased.
They're a conservative news organization because they cater to a conserv audience.
Like big corporations, they're fascist-tolerant. Fascism can make money. @FixMediaNow#MediaOwnership matters.

Here’s an interview with a leading polticial consultant that explains why Senators are not willing to fight.
Dmitri Mehlhorn: bipartisanship is powerful, swing voters are the key to elections.
Senators aren’t acting because consultants tell them it will hurt them in 2024. /1
There’s some good stuff in this interview with @ryangrim. Mehlhorn is a super smart guy, and he neatly incorporates his past errors into today’s consensus.
@ryangrim Yes, swing voters are important. Yes, the “main signal” (@whstancil) is 95% of politics — the public discourse, not the ads politicians run.
Consultant Mehlhorn agrees with all that. (The second point is a bit of a retcon, but glad he’s gotten there.)
And a reminder: the neutral political journalism of NYT, WaPo, and CNN would be absolutely anathema to Joseph Pulitzer if he lived today. Pulitzer had liberal values and his newspaper expressed those values.
Pulitzer’s New York World did not try to be neutral toward power in order to maximize his audience.
Pulitzer criticized the wealthy and oriented his paper against “robber barons.” Imagine if NYT/WaPo Opinion and Politics did that today? The country would be in a better place.
The New York World covered WWI German propagandists in the US.
@sandeepvaheesan@Econ_Marshall Ah as this is a media account, I have to say the WSJ Opinion callout is the real one.
“Some Silicon Valley Dems and centrist ghouls” yeeeees
This tweet has 5.4 million views.
It’s mainstreaming rightwing pro-gun-death lies into US public discourse. Saudi autocrats and American oligarchs like Ellison put up cash for Twitter.
And the White House politics people said Musk buying Twitter didn’t matter! Malpractice.
December 2022, @whstancil highlights a Semafor piece headlined “Why the White House isn’t stressed about Elon Musk’s Twitter.”
They should have been stressed! They should have used every available tool to block the deal.
(FTC, SEC, foreign money.)
@whstancil Me in November 2022:
“Elon Musk is changing Twitter to amplify rightwing voices.”
Quoting @jslez: “it will be easy for Musk to succeed at boosting rightist agitprop and suppressing the left. That shifts the media diet for the normie 90% [of Twitter users]" deepnarrative.substack.com/p/twitter-is-b…
To be clear: “proud gun owner” from a senior advisor at Giffords is the same kind of poll-tested consultant brain that tells senators to be bipartisan instead of blaming Republicans.
The consultants tell them it polls poorly in swing districts to say “ban weapons of war.”
What Giffords should be doing is holding up pictures of massacred kids and saying “Republicans did this, they want people to have weapons of war. They want your kids to die.”
But that “polls poorly in swing districts.” It is “divisive.” So instead we get mealy garbage.
Go on the offensive, Democratic leaders! Go on the political offensive, nonprofits like Giffords!
Stop trying to find “balance” with fascists who want your kids torn apart by AR-15s because it brings them power and votes. You must DEFEAT the GOP, not compromise with them.
