After posting the language of Universal Background Checks/Gun Owner Registration on the committee page for just 14 minutes, the Public Safety Omnibus Committee, which only has DFL members on it, has just adopted the language unanimously, without debate or testimony. #mnleg
The entirely DFL committee has now adopted red-flag firearm confiscation, unanimously, without debate or testimony.
Next stop, House and Senate floors for an up or down vote. #mnleg
By packaging it together with funding for corrections, courts, and public defenders, they are giving political cover to vulnerable senators like @RobKupec, @grant_hauschild, @JudySeeberger and @AricForMN.
Now they can try and parse words with constituents. #mnleg

@grant_hauschild First, the right of a Minnesotan to keep and bear arms, enshrined in our Second Amendment, is NOT about hunting.
In the core holding of the landmark US Supreme Court case, Justice Scalia wrote, "The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
@grant_hauschild We agree with you that @JohnMarty's SF1723 would create a gun-registry (and much more) and SF916's arbitrary storage requirements violate the Second Amendment and create undue burdens on responsible gun owners.

In response to the proposed changes to the St. Paul Legislative Code, the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus issued the following statement:
"Three freshman DFL senators — Robert Kupec of Moorhead, Grant Hauschild of Hermantown and Judy Seeberger of Afton — all said they have concerns with certain gun control bills."
"Kupec said he has issues with all the gun bills but declined to discuss his specific positions, citing ongoing negotiations. He said he can envision himself voting for new restrictions with the right bill, but added: "I don't know if we're going to get there or not.""
"Hauschild and Seeberger both expressed concern about the firearm storage bill, saying they oppose requiring gun owners to store their guns and ammunition separately."

It should elevate judges — unlike the present conservative majority justices of the U.S. Supreme Court — who don’t view the Second Amendment as a national… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
"Castigation must befall anyone who obstructs gun violence prevention. Lawmakers should continue to enact measures to protect constituents from the daily massacres their communities suffer. But members of those communities can participate in the greater reform project by shaming… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
