This isn’t a town hall, it’s a Trump klan rally #CNNTownhall
This dumpster fire can only serve to hurt Trump and CNN. They’ll be lucky if it turns out no one is watching.
Did CNN know this would be such a hideous disaster? Yes.

Are more people than ever going to be done with CNN? Yes.

Will CNN boss Chris Licht survive this? Maybe not.

Will Trump benefit in any way from this? Not a chance. If anything it’ll cost him swing voters.
Remember, CNN’s ratings had already dropped to historic lows before this town hall. There’s no secret evil genius plan at work. CNN has no idea what it’s even trying to do. This won’t magically help CNN or Trump. It’s just another blow to an already imaginary 2024 “campaign.”

Mark Pomerantz testified today behind closed doors about Bragg’s Trump probe. House Republicans are now publicly complaining about how ‘uncooperative’ Pomerantz was. In other words, they got nothing out of him, and his testimony was the non-story we always knew it would be.
Now that Pomerantz has testified, House Republicans have lost their ability to argue that Pomerantz’s refusal to testify means he and Bragg must be hiding something.

In other words, Bragg just beat Jim Jordan at his own game.
In politics, if someone’s testimony is going to be my useless to you anyway, you don’t necessarily want the testimony. You want the talking point about how they’re refusing to testify.

That’s how politics actually works.

Pundits just never explain this stuff to you.

The Durham probe has now officially closed. It ended up having zero impact of any kind, just as I predicted from the start. It was clear at the time that Barr was merely placating a senile Trump into believing he’d magically be avenged. These people do not have magical powers.
Think about how many thousands of times you heard MSNBC or CNN hosts insist the Durham probe was a crisis and that we were all doomed. Those were all intentional lies to stoke fear and drive ratings. Not one person on TV ever believed this probe could have any impact of any kind.
If Garland had forcibly shut the Durham probe down early (as so many of angrily demanded), then it would have had teeth. There would have been hearings on what Garland was trying to cover up. Instead Garland just let the zombie probe die, leaving Republicans nothing to work with.

Credit goes to the The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin for being the only media pundit I've seen so far who is honestly acknowledging that Trump's town hall hurt him. The other 99.99% of pundits are pretending it helped him, because that scary spin is better for their ratings.
The crazy part is that because there's only one person on TV admitting that this town hall hurt Trump, it comes off like some contrarian hot take.

But in reality, it's a matter of one person being honest, while the entire rest of the industry hypes the same contrarian hot take.
Merely condemning this town hall, or condemning CNN for hosting it, does not mean you're being honest about the town hall.

99.99% of the pundits condemning this town hall are also pretending it helped Trump. And that's not honest at all.

Fox News firing Tucker Carlson for becoming a financial liability.

Anderson Cooper kissing the new CNN boss' ass to try to avoid getting laid off.

Timely reminder that all major news outlets are for-profit corporations whose employees are paid to drive ratings and revenue.
Carlson's job was to be an unhinged bigot on the air in order to drive ratings. But behind the scenes he was expected to behave like a professional when interacting with his colleagues. His on air persona was all supposed to be just a calculated act.
Then there's Anderson Cooper, who's been on air at CNN for 22 years. The definition of a company man. Every time he's had to go with the company line over the years to keep his job, he's done it. Maybe he doesn't like doing it. But he wants to keep his job.

1) It’s hilarious that 100% of political journalists, pundits and analysts all just happen to agree that this town hall helped Trump and made him more powerful. None of them can even explain why they think this is the case, but 100% of them have somehow reached this conclusion.
2) Of course there’s consensus that the town hall was disgraceful. But when if comes to a more open ended question like whether it helped or hurt Trump or had no impact on him, there should be widely varying takes among analysts and pundits. Except there aren’t.
3) That’s what’s so maddeningly dishonest about this industry. No matter what side you’re on, the take that benefits you the most in terms of ratings and page views and career prospects is to say that Trump is more powerful than ever. So *everyone* just happens to have that take.

In hindsight the giveaway that George Santos would be indicted by the DOJ may have come a few weeks ago, when Brazil offered him a plea deal that didn't involve prison time. The US perhaps told Brazil that Santos was being indicted here and wouldn't be extradited anyway.
At the time, I remember there being a lot of "oh no everyone is letting him off the hook" sentiment about his Brazil plea deal. But it was for petty fraud. Nothing compared to what he was being investigated for in the US.
If Brazil had moved to extradite Santos, it would have been a sign that Brazil knew (or thought) that the US *wasn't* going to prosecute him for anything bigger.
