🚧WRONG WAY🚧
No more excuses!

Read the whole thread to understand how CCSD has been driving #NVed in the WRONG direction

We'll review where we've come from and how we've gotten all turned around
- New national data
- Updated teacher exodus data
And More!

1/?
#Nved #NVLeg Image
2/?
This morning’s NY Times referenced data from The Educational Opportunity Project

They've charted the change in average reading scores since the pandemic

Each dot is a school district

Higher dot, reading performance improved.
Lower dot, reading performance worsened. Image
3/?

The highlighted bubbles represent the 10 largest districts in the US (NY did not have data)

Higher bubbles = Students have done better in reading since the pandemic

Lower bubbles = Students have done worse in reading since the pandemic

Guess which one is Clark County… Image
4/?
Reading performance in CCSD has dropped by almost half a grade level since the pandemic

OVER DOUBLE the drop experienced by the next lowest district

Has it always been like this?
OR
Should the Board open its eyes to how disastrous this leadership has been for our students Image
5/?

Were we ever headed in the right direction???

In the early 2000’s Nevada’s 4th graders were consistently performing about a year behind their national peers in 4th-grade reading.

But then… Image
6/?
Nevada made massive investments in early literacy.

In 2019, Nevada’s 4th graders who had exposure to those investments from Kindergarten through 4th grade took the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

So, what happened….

#ThankALegislator #NVleg Image
7/?
Wow!

In 2019, for the 1st time ever, Nevada’s 4th graders performed in line with their national peers

From 2009-2019, only 3 states in the US made more progress than Nevada

Our teachers, our administrators, and our community did that.
What do they all have to say now… Image
8/?

The teachers who improved early literacy outcomes and closed gaps with the national average have NO CONFIDENCE in the Superintendent. Image
9/?

The principals who improved early literacy outcomes and closed gaps with the national average have NO CONFIDENCE in the Superintendent. #NVed #NVleg Image
10/?

The business community that supported the massive investments in early literacy that closed national gaps has NO CONFIDENCE in the Clark County School District. Image
11/?

Just how disastrous has the leadership of the Clark County School District been?

Let’s look…. Image
12/?
At the height of the pandemic, CCSD made the biggest blunder in education history

They PAID admin to retire early resulting in the largest exodus of administrators EVER

When needed most CCSD lost:
- Top Performing Principals
- Head of Transportation
- Head of Technology Image
13/?

Last year, CCSD saw the largest exodus of teachers EVER

And this does not include all the teachers that moved to fill in all the vacant administrator positions. Image
14/?

This year’s teacher exodus is second only to last year’s unprecedented disaster

Just how bad is it this year?

There’s a bigger difference between this year & the next highest year than there is between the next highest year & the lowest year

#ContinuedDisaster Image
15/?

Tens of thousands of parents have opted out of CCSD for their children

This is happening while the school-aged population of Clark County CONTINUES TO GROW!!!

That’s right, there are MORE school-aged children in Clark County. We are growing. The District is NOT. Image
16/?

What has happened to early literacy since Nevada’s teachers, principals, and community closed seemingly insurmountable gaps for our students?
#NVed #NVleg Image
17/?

While the rest of Nevada experienced a minor decrease,
CCSD’s 4th-grade reading performance completely plummeted.

CCSD went from outperforming the rest of NV to significantly below the rest of the state. Image
18/18

All we hear from CCSD leadership & the School Board are excuses

Blame the community
Blame the principals
Blame the teachers

Those being blamed have proven they can do right by students

We need leadership with solutions not excuses

🚧 CAUTION 🚧

CCSD released its new transparency dashboards yesterday.

We applaud transparency, but it must be meaningful, not just numbers on a website.

Proceed with CAUTION, the data does not come with any context.

Let’s bring some context to the data. A thread 🧵
1/?
#NVed Image
2/?

First, let's look at staffing, the MOST IMPORTANT issue in #NVed

The dashboard has staffing counts. That's nice.

You just can’t compare it to anything.
Not even another school year.

Let’s bring some context to this data… Image
3/?

CCSD has been hemorrhaging teachers.

All the staffing gains that were made after the Great Recession have been wiped out! Image

🚨 Data Investigation 🚨

Tonight, the CCSD Board will be meeting for the evaluation of Superintendent Jesus Jara.

The data they will review is so bad it even shocked us.

They don’t even address the elephant in the room.

Let’s take a look…
1/? 🧵

#Nved #CCSD
2/?
Student Proficiency

Look at all that green! Isn’t it amazing!

NO mention that only 54% of students participated in the test last year.

Let’s try looking at a different comparison w/ more context…
#DataInvestigation
3/?

Did you know before Jara was Supt, CCSD had a HIGHER 3rd-grade proficiency rate than the rest of Nevada?

It’s true!

But not anymore.

Why wasn’t this mentioned in the evaluation?
The other schools in Nevada went through the same pandemic.

🎉Happy Nevada Education Data Day to all those who celebrate!

Nevada Report Card has been updated with data from the 2022 school year.

It’s time to celebrate all the schools that knocked it out of the park last year!

First up, 3rd Grade Math

@WashoeSchools making it look easy and taking half of the 10 top spots in the state!

Drake has stolen the crown from @PAN_Inspirada who led the state in 3rd grade math last year.

Congrats to all!
3/?
4th Grade Math

These schools all have proficiency rates over double the state average. Unbelievable!

Pro Tip: Never compete in a 4th grade Mathletics competition for money against Pinecrest

🚨 WTF Alert 🚨

Time for a thread on the Jara regime’s relationship with truth & transparency

Regarding teacher attrition,
yesterday in the Las Vegas Sun,
Superintendent Jesus Jara allegedly claimed:

“….CCSD was seeing normal, not accelerated, attrition this year.” #WTF

1/?
2/?

Jara’s CCSD has had trouble w/ teacher workforce reality for a while

In March, CCSD told News 3 they were only short 77 teachers. #WTF

REALITY: CCSD started advertising current year vacancies as next year's positions.

Months earlier they told the RJ they were short 850
3/?

At Jara’s State of the Schools speech, he said the proficiency of ALL students would go up by 7% points.

5 DAYS LATER they released a report with their latest data indicating ALL students & ethnicity groups were projected to go DOWN.

🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

On Thursday @ClarkCountySch will present an update on teacher vacancies to the Board.

The presentation is EXTREMELY misleading.
This thread explains how.

WARNING: This thread contains a lot of data, but you should still read the WHOLE thread.

Here's the 1st chart on teacher/licensed staff counts in CCSD's presentation

Look at the chart & see if it conveys the BIGGEST headlines about CCSD's teacher workforce
#IntentionalChoices
3/?

Hard to see here, but CCSD "analysts" added a flat dotted line to make it look like staffing hasn’t changed in 6 years.

They chose to add that line.
