Mauricio Pochettino feels the timing is right to join Chelsea and is excited by the project. #CFC approached him prior to appointing Graham Potter but Pochettino was reticent to move having relatively recently left PSG, and with the summer window shut.
Pochettino was also wary because #CFC didn't have a fully functional recruitment team. A key factor on being sold by Chelsea was Laurence Stewart, who led the recruitment alongside Paul Winstanley. Stewart worked with Paul Mitchell at Monaco and came highly recommended to Poch.
Mitchell isn't on Chelsea's radar despite being considered in the past. #CFC are very happy with their recruitment and senior leadership team.
Pochettino basically interviewed Chelsea as much as they interviewed him. He stressed the need for proven Premier League quality, a goal scorer and a summer clear out. Pochettino also wants to keep Mason Mount.
The plan is for Pochettino to collaborate with Frank Lampard and Chelsea's senior leadership between now and the end of the season so when he starts there is the smoothest possible transition.
Several senior Chelsea players are excited by Pochettino's imminent arrival. There is a belief amongst some key members of the squad that he's not only the right appointment, but a safe choice.

Understand Avram Glazer being at Claridges is a red herring. Important verbal back and forth with both Nine Two Foundation and Sir Jim Ratcliffe expected this week. Both parties are now talking to Raine Group.
Should Qatar increase their final offer it is not expected to be disclosed. Talks are more fluid and the formal offer deadlines are gone. Nine Two Foundation remain confident they are not out the race.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is "cautiously optimistic". But until a preferred bidder is named, and with neither group in an exclusive period, there is plenty of competitive tension.
🚨 Chelsea have now agreed terms with Mauricio Pochettino to become their new head coach. Miguel D’Agostino, Jesus Perez, Toni Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino will also all join. 🤝🔵
Deal has been advanced for two weeks with Pochettino negotiating his terms along with his backroom staff. Chelsea encouraged by the two-way nature of conversations during the process. Pochettino really engaged and clear in his vision, which impressed #CFC’s senior leadership.
As previously reported, Pochettino has emphasised the importance of keeping Mason Mason, a summer clear out and bringing in proven Premier League quality.
No preferred bidder for #MUFC is expected to be named until next week. Sources close to INEOS are now “cautiously optimistic” and the mood is described as “positive”. But INEOS are yet to receive formal confirmation on anything or be placed in an exclusive period.
Sources maintain Ratcliffe’s club valuation has been higher since round two. His offer is flexible and for control. It would require finessing further should a deal be struck where Joel and Avram stay. But the pair would not retain Class B voting power.
Sheikh Jassim’s Nine Two Foundation do not see themselves as out of the race. One advantage of no group being in an exclusive period to date is either can still change their offer.
The Glazers are relaying their feedback on final offers this week. Nothing significant took place over the weekend. Sir Jim Ratcliffe's offer was higher (believed to be pushing $6.5bn) and flexible. He wants control and is prepared to achieve that in a variety of structures.
INEOS has basically been built on acquiring companies and see their experience in M&As as helpful. Ratcliffe has also earmarked Paul Mitchell as part of the #MUFC project. Mitchell has previously been considered for Nice.
However, Sheikh Jassim hasn't given up. And still huge confusion over Nine Two Foundation's offer and whether the pledged investment is part of, or on top of, the circa £5bn offer. Insiders continue to question Nine Two Foundation's bid. Qatar-side reiterate offer is competitive.
Big twist in the #MUFC sale process. As revealed earlier on @UnitedPeoplesTV, confusion over Sheikh Jassim bid. Insiders claim Nine Two Foundation's total offer is circa £5bn ($6.3bn), but number includes the debt & around £0.8bn ($1bn) in pledged investment. Latter NOT on top.
This means Sir Jim Ratcliffe's bid, for control of the club, is significantly higher, with some sources indicating it has been all along. As discussed earlier, confusion and conflict over Sheikh Jassim structure:
Those close to Nine Two Foundation simply indicate their offer (which they still say is slightly above £5bn) is competitive and that it's normal for any group seeking a 'smaller' investment to pay more than someone offering 100%.
A big twist in the #MUFC sale process. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is prepared to offer Joel and Avram Glazer a route to stay. Under such a structure, Ratcliffe would gain control and leave Joel and Avram with around 20%, as first revealed by @Lawton_Times and @MikeKeegan_DM.
Understand this is one option and will rest on the Glazers preference. Ratcliffe is ultimately being flexible, as sources always indicated he would be, to try and get control. There could also be a laddered element over time, too.
Whereas Sheikh Jassim's bid is referred to as 'all or nothing', Ratcliffe is looking for control. If Joel and Avram genuinely want to stay this could be one way of getting it.
