So the founder of 180 Days in Spain and the self-titled "Defender of Freedom of Movement" has released another long thread on European accession.
1
Yet again he fails to actually mention European citizens, states and politics.
Interestingly, he calls for not fooling British people, although he suggests not telling them about the difficulties with European accession
2
Does he practise what he preaches?
Take his constant appeals for "part-year residents". This class doesn't exist in Spain, UK, or Europe.
3
He invented this. Essentially he invented a group of people that don't exist and then blamed Europe for not providing for them.
People like him. Who want to come and go as they please in Europe but without contributing or registering.
Not very transparent.
4
Or take his complaints around 90/180 visa waiver that apply to third countries. He claims that there Europe has longer and better deals with third countries and coilf give longer Schengen visa waivers.
5
Of course, then he blame Europe for not proving Britons with a special deal (the truth is that deals were grandfathered in pre-Schengen and 90/180 is all that's available under Schengen)
6
Apparently Europe is supposed to rip up its own treaties and what makes us Europe to satisfy citizens from a country which voted to turn its back on us.
7
Of course, nowadays he feigns interest in Europe and European citizens.
In truth, he want FOM. He doesn't care about the rest of the UK.
(nor does he acknowledge that FOM is tied to state obligations)
8
This is, in short, demagoguery.
He riles up British people in Spain and elsewhere, who have been hurt by Brexit, with lies, then blames Europe for not fixing their problems.
It was that attitude that made Brexit possible. We must not import this or allow this in Europe.
10.
For rejoiners, especially the leadership, this 180 Days in Spain, SaveFOM campaign, with the frankly horrible attitude to Spaniards and other Europeans, is damaging your rejoin efforts. You need to disown them.
Because if you want FOM back, this is (some of) what you need to do. No shortcuts, no gimics to cut out Brussels like Brexiters wanted to, no special treatment for Brits, no #exceptionalism
If you FOM exceptionalist says "We don't know what's going to come of negotiations with Europe", then ask them, "What if Europe says no FOM for Britons?"
Maybe it would be easier to just say European law would apply.

As countries decline, more often than not it is slowly. This is particularly true of successful countries, when accumulated capital (financial, infrastructure and plant, cultural) is such that the country can pull through a difficult period or at least not notice the decline so
2
A recent example is the USA, which despite a broken politics and deindustrialisation remains the essential country in the world. The accumulation - money, dollar dominace, universities, military advancement, investments, etc. - mean it can ride out the problems.
The origins of this thread lie in a discussion around the 2016 ref with a Brexiter. He stated that “all we want is what Liechtenstein has – single market with no free movement – the precedent is there. EU should give it to us”.
2
I am dubious that this would have satisfied either him or the Brexiters, who needed to go through Brexit to understand why they shouldn’t want it.
So, Britons elect Cameron on the basis of holding a referendum, then vote for Brexit, the elect May and end SM, then elect Johnson and withdraw from Europe and European citizenship.
Yet apparently it's time to "blame the foreigners".
1
Zéro humility, zéro atonement for the mess you've caused.
Just shouting at Europeans to fix it for you to live in Spain with no health insurance and not pay your taxes.
No matter what relationship they ask for to get closer to Europe, Europe will retain its strategic and decision-making autonomy.
2.
This applies most obviously to the SM. The complexity of agreeing new rules and regulations, the tradeoffs needed, are already too complex without adding the UK.
