Parasites and Their Dangers - Know the Common Culprits

You may be suffering unknowingly.

Master Thread: Image
1. Protozoa:
Protozoa are microscopic, single-celled parasites that can be found in water or food. These parasites can cause a range of illnesses, from mild diarrhea to severe infections. Image
Examples of protozoa:
- Plasmodium falciparum
- Entamoeba histolytica
- Giardia lamblia
- Cryptosporidium parvum
- Trypanosoma brucei
- Toxoplasma gondii
- Leishmania spp.
2. Helminths:
Helminths are large, multicellular parasites that can live in the intestines, blood, or tissues of their hosts. These parasites can cause a range of symptoms, including anemia, malnutrition, and abdominal pain. Image
Examples of helminths:
- Roundworms
- Tapeworms
- Flukes
- Whipworms
- Hookworms
- Pinworms
- Threadworms
3. Ectoparasites
Ectoparasites are parasites that live on the skin of their hosts. These parasites can cause itching, redness, and skin infections. Image
Examples of ectoparasites:
- Ticks
- Fleas
- Lice
- Mites
- Bed bugs
- Botflies
- Mosquitoes
4. Microscopic Parasites
Microscopic parasites, are often found in the gut and can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, bloating, and abdominal pain. While they are not always harmful, they can cause health problems if they overgrow or if the host's immune system is weakened. Image
examples of microscopic parasites:
- Giardia lamblia
- Cryptosporidium
- Toxoplasma gondii
- Blastocystis hominis
- Entamoeba histolytica
- Cyclospora cayetanensis
- Dientamoeba fragilis
5. Common Symptoms:
Symptoms of a parasitic infection can vary depending on the type of parasite involved. Common symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and weight loss. In some severe cases, parasites can also cause, liver or brain damage.
7. Gut Health, Metabolism and Parasites:
Parasites can disrupt the delicate balance of the gut microbiome, which can lead to digestive problems and other health issues. More specifically, Image
Parasitic nematodes or their byproducts have the ability to influence cellular metabolism through various mechanisms, such as direct effects on the function of hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells.
They can also have indirect effects by activating genes that regulate the production of metabolically active factors downstream.

Parasites are often the cause of a troubled gut microbiome and hindered metabolic function as well. Image
8. Treatment:
Probiotics, such as those found in fermented foods (kimchi, kefir, sauerkraut, etc.) and supplements, can help to restore the balance of beneficial bacteria in the gut and support overall health and wellness.
Many western doctors would suggest antibiotics, but I would argue that there are a variety of holistic and natural cleanses to rid your body of parasites. There are also vast arrays of herbal remedies like oregano oil, garlic, clove etc.

A holistic approach is best.
9. Prevention
While parasites can be a serious health risk, prevention can help to reduce the risk of infection. By taking steps to maintain good hygiene, avoid contaminated food and water, it is possible to protect oneself from the dangers of these parasitic invaders.
Also, you want to consume a natural diet (organic raw whole foods), no artificial/processed sugars and carbohydrates for parasites to feed on.
Regardless, I would recommend a parasite cleanse at least once per year to ensure your body is functioning at its optimal level.
