This article by @SRCSandra covers A LOT of ground highlighting #PuertoRico's current state of affairs. What is discussed is important & comes to the conclusion that this reality is unsustainable.
There may no longer be military governors imposed by US running the show but more than ever before in island's history, federal government controls/oversees many key agency functions due to the mediocrity & rampant corruption of the local government. 2/ eyboricua.com/opinion/el-pro…
#PuertoRico's police department has a federal monitor due to rampant police abuse & most recently an additional monitor has been placed to review/oversee certain department finances. 3/ elnuevodia.com/english/news/s…
There is direct Federal control in the Department of Education, in the Department of Housing over #CDBGR funds, & over the jail system.

and this past week at a @TheJusticeDept press conference announcing the arrest of 2 people for environmental crimes, it was also announced that DOJ would set up a task force to further investigate ongoing environmental crimes in #PuertoRico & #USVI. 5/ justice.gov/opa/pr/justice…
Who was glaringly absent from this press conference? The local government, absent while the feds announced the takeover of the oversight it was supposed to be providing. 6/ eyboricua.com/opinion/el-pro…
Y para colmo, also that day #SCOTUS dealt another colonial blow declaring that @FOMBPR (imposed by US Congress) has sovereign immunity from providing access to Board's records, an affront to those in #PuertoRico demanding transparency & accountability. 7/ scotusblog.com/2023/01/a-figh…
This is all frustrating & deplorable, but it is NOT an indictment on the people of #PuertoRico. It is of the corrupt electeds running the govt like their fiefdom, enriching themselves & those who form part of their inner circle. Let's shine the light & depose the corruption.
